40. Surviving the Favela Street Shooting

Rojas' assistant fires at militia men
Don’t crouch and you become the collateral here. Image Credits: Activision

John ‘Soap’ MacTavish, Gary ‘Roach’ Sanderson, and Merlin are following a van in a car and stop as they get a positive ID on their target, who is an assistant to Alejandro Rojas, the mission’s main target. But the situation becomes heated when a couple of men get out of the van and point a gun at Rojas’ assistant. But his reflexes are quick. He fires his gun and kills them both.

In a fit of mania, he also fires at the car Soap, Roach, and Merlin are sitting in. Merlin becomes the collateral damage to this small carnage in the streets of Favela. They both then chase the assistant to an alley and shoot him in the leg and throw him to Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley for a painful investigation.

39. When a Battleship Almost Blew Up Their Chopper

Soap ducks while sitting in a chopper as a fighter jets fly past them
Ghost says, “Bloody Yanks!” Image Credits: Activision

Multiple choppers surround the Gulag. Shepherd’s Task Force 141 is clearing enemy forces from the towers of a giant fortress holding the mysterious prisoner 627, for whom all this chaos and explosions are happening all around. In the middle of this battle, MacTavish points out that he sees four hostiles in a tower, and suddenly a missile swooshes past their chopper from left and blows the tower, and then a fighter jet flies past them to their right.

Soap is panicked and asks Shepherd to cease fire. It was too close to them. Not until Shepherd explains,

“One man in a gulag doesn’t mean much to the Navy at this point.”

Though all all the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare soldiers know, “Since when does Shepherd care about danger close?” Eh?

38. When Yuri and Soap Tumbled off the Roof

Soap jumps off the tower as the bomb explodes
We finally know the truth about Yuri after this mission and Price is not happy. Image Credits: Activision

“Yuri, my friend. You never should have come here.”

For the ones playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games for the first time, these words will take you by surprise. Then when you have finished the game, they will echo inside your mind for eternity. It is after these words that Makarov says, an explosion happens inside a church tower Yuri and Soap are keeping an overwatch from, and they fall off of there.

The matter becomes worse when Soap’s wound, which was stitched fix just recently, splits open, and Yuri has to carry him on the shoulder in the middle of a bloody warzone in Prague as Price provides support from the front. Makarov came prepared. He always comes prepared. They should’ve known.

37. Escaping the Gulag

Captain Price watches Soap as he fires a flare
The pulling sequence will churn your gut out. Image Credits: Activision

We finally know where Captain Price was all along since that bloody encounter on the bridge in the Atlay Mountains. He is the mysterious prisoner 627 the Gulag is holding. You might remember the excitement to see Price again, but the escape that follows is more exhilarating.

Roach is down, and the entire fortress is coming down too after the Navy has shaken it with bombs, well, “One man in a gulag doesn’t mean much to the Navy at this point,” remember? So the Task Force 141 is stuck, but there’s one opening going all the way up. Soap fires a flare, hoping it goes out in the sky and the chopper sees it. It does, and they are all pulled up before becoming part of the rubble.

36. In the Hind Fight

Frost fires at the enemy hind.
Frost almost falls down from the chopper. Image Credits: Activision

The Delta Force unit in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 just boarded their Black Hawk chopper after destroying a jammer and dropping predator missiles on high-rise buildings in Manhattan. Everything is clear as they leave, but a couple of hinds suddenly appear. Derek ‘Frost’ Westbrook, the player we are controlling, rains fire from the chopper minigun. The team successfully fends them off.

And just when they are taking a sigh of relief, another one pops out of nowhere and starts shooting at them. There’s an under-construction building between these two choppers, which is making this hind fight annoying and interesting at the same time.

35. Predator Causing a Small Landslide

An explosion throws Yuri away
“Who the hell is Yuri?” Soap asks. Image Credits: Activision

If you remember, Soap is still punctured from the last encounter with General Shepherd in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Price and Nikolai had brought him to a mountain facility in India to fix him. During this, they are met with quite a firepower from Makarov’s men, and they escape from there, thanks to one Unmanned Ground Vehicle which helps clear the path full of enemies.

All leaves safely leave but Yuri. He is the last man on the ground, so he makes a run for life as a predator drone keeps pouring missiles on the ground. That causes an under-constructed building to blow up and cause a little landslide and Yuri goes sliding down from the mountain, tumbling into the river beneath.

34. MacMillan Almost Getting Chopped by a Chopper

Player watching the crashed helicopter approaching
You’ll have to carry Captain MacMillan while also fighting enemies for the rest of the level. Image Credits: Activision

MacMillan and Price are escaping the ghost town they just awakened with their sniping and blowing off the left arm of Imran Zakhaev, the main protagonist of the first Call of Duty Modern Warfare game. The town is crawling with enemies as these two sneaks pass the abandoned grey apartment buildings.

But to their dismay, an enemy chopper spots them, and now they have to snipe the metal beast flying the air to clear the path. They fire at the rotor blades and disable the helicopter. But it goes out of control, firing missiles like crazy in every direction, and begins ascending towards them.

As they try to avoid it, MacMillan strains his leg and falls down, and we watch the helicopter come closer to him, just praying that it doesn’t crush the poor bastard. Learn the lesson here, kids. If you ever shoot down a helicopter, step aside and give the wounded beast a way to crash, or you may end up tangled in its rotor blades.

33. Killing Zakhaev

Imran Zakhaev, a major antagonist in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games, looks back as Soap points a pistol at him
Imran Zakhaev also appears in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Image Credits: Activision

The ride is about to get bumpy in this mission as the soldiers are stuck on a bridge that an enemy Hind almost blew in half, following a sweaty chase. They still make a stand, but another missile from the Hind just blows everything apart.

Most of the soldiers are wounded now. Can’t get up. Sgt. Griggs tries to pull Soap away from the danger and is shot after getting him across a couple of yards. The ultranationalists are there, and the ultranationalist of the ultranationalists, Imran Zakhaev, is now in front of the player. He just shoots Gaz from point-blank range. Now it’s time for Soap and Price to count their breaths because one-armed Zakhaev is approaching them to pull the life out of them.

But just then one of Kamarov’s helicopters blows the Hind hovering above. Zakhaev is distracted. Price doesn’t waste a second and pulls whatever life is left within and slides his M1911 .45 pistol towards Soap. It’s now or never to take the shot at Zakhaev, and at a couple of soldiers protecting him, which Soap does. Then watches the carnage he and the fellow soldiers just endured. Burning vehicles, dead soldiers, and black smoke is all that is left in front of the vast Atlay Mountains.

32. Mortars in the Village

Yuri fires a mortar on a tin hut in the village
The local militia scatters like ants in the mortar sequence. Image Credits: Activision

Captain Price, Yuri, and Soap find themselves in Sierra Leone with pure Resident Evil 5-like vibes. They are looking for some cargo shipments to get leads on Vladimir Makarov’s plan (Makarov’s the main villain in Modern Warfare 2 and 3). They begin with stealth to wipe out as much local militia as they can before being spotted. After dealing with flying bullets from multiple directions, they now face mortars the enemy is sending their way.

They all make a run to save their lives in the narrow alleyways before finding the tower from where mortars are rising high in the sky and coming down like hell. Yuri then takes control of the tower. Now it’s time for revenge. He rains hell on the local militia and almost destroys the village. This guy’s got no mercy in him!

31. Driving the Jeep from the Passenger Seat

Captain Price is in the back of a jeep and Soap is firing at the enemies behind it
Nikolai would still say, “You do not have situation under control.” Image Credits: Activision

Just like old times, you play as MacTavish. He is trying to reach the other side of a boneyard in Afghanistan. Once you do that, while Shepherd and Makarov’s men are busy killing each other, you need to enter the plane Nikolai just landed. It’s an easy ride, and you just have to hit the ramp and set to get out of the land of fire.

But ride gets bumpy when the driver is hit, and now MacTavish holds the steering from passenger seat, trying to keep the jeep steady and on target. We must say, after watching how the jeep enters the plane, Soap has got some serious driving skills.

30. Hanging from a High-Rise Elevator

Yuri and Price standing in the elevator in their juggernaut suits and shooting at the helicopter
This chopper is only buying Makarov some time. Image Credits: Activision

It’s a beautiful view from the elevator. Clear skies, a starry night, and an endless sea beneath. Two juggernauts are looking at this scenery before they murder Makarov, but a chopper spoils the view and starts firing at them. Angry, they fire back at the chopper, which then comes spiraling towards them and explodes. Now they are two burning juggernauts in an elevator. They extinguish the fire.

The trouble’s not over, though. They need to get out of the lift before it goes down from that height. It is unstable and about to go down. First, Yuri jumps on another lift Nikolai just sent up to them. But when Price jumps, the hanging elevator falls and he loses balance. Now he is hanging several meters above the ground. He made it to the other side anyway.

29. When Enemy Dropped the Damn Building on Soldiers

Sandman comes to aid in the middle of dust after the building fell
Decepticons from Transformers films can take lessons on how to drop a building from these insects. Image Credits: Activision

Sandman and his team are in a ruined Berlin to save Alena Vorshevsky, daughter of the fictional Russian President. The entire city looks grey, like a city covered in ashes after huge battle. The team is getting near to the location they triangulated, but when they gets closer, a bomb goes off and an entire building comes falling down on the US Army soldiers. Sandman tells the commander in frustration,

“They dropped a damn building on us!”

This is Delta Team. More like Sandman and team. They don’t know how to give up. The team then digs their way through the dropped building and finally reaches the location. Though they lose Alena in the last moment.

28. Rescue Operation in the Middle of a Sandstorm

Task Force 141 - Disavowed members moves towards the city from one side and the massive sandstorm is visible moving from the other side.
This is the level where you’ll find a major lead on one of Makarov’s men. Image Credit: Activision

Funny thing. Nikolai is supposed to extract Captain Price and team after a capture and interrogate operation but tables turn and he needs rescuing now. His chopper goes down and everyone is stuck in the middle of a coastal city of Bosaso. All thanks to a massive sandstorm that is moving towards them which you can see from the very start of the mission.

When the sandstorm finally hits, it leaves everyone almost blind because of all that sand in their eyes. The local militia had no major impact from this nature’s beast because they are all looking for that fallen helicopter with glowing torches and guns in their hands. You have to move past them and go to another exfil while carrying the downed Nikolai. Mother nature really cooked this time.

27. Surrounded by Militia in the Alleyways of Afghanistan

Soldiers taking cover on the right behind a house wall
PFC. Joseph Allen is not so lucky in his next mission. Image Credits: Activision

US Army Rangers are passing narrow alleys of Afghanistan in their Humvees, keeping an eye on every corner. The place is crawling with enemy militia, but there’s no sign of hostile activity until they start getting sniper fire from multiple directions. Though the Humvees are manned with miniguns, there are so many enemy soldiers that you can’t do anything but fire blindly.

Drivers of Humvees throw their brakes at the accelerator in an attempt to escape as quickly as they can before being squeezed by the enemy forces, but an RPG blows their plan. Fortunately narrow alleyways mean close premises, and the downed soldiers make an attempt to enter on their right. PFC. Joseph Allen, the player we control, is the last man left behind (just like Yuri) and is almost shot but manages to reach the cover. Just in the nick of time.

26. Chasing Volk in Paris

A tank chasing Delta Team on the streets of Paris
It is sad to see what war can do to a beautiful city. Image Credits: Activision

There’s the enchantment of falling tree leaves and thrill of chasing a terrorist on the streets of Paris in this MW3 mission called Bag and Drag. Delta Team got the lead from Captain Price on a leading villain. So the Delta Team is looking for this man named Volk while Paris is dying from a poisonous gas attack.

Volk tries to escape in a car while Sandman and his crew are in a beat up van. Situation is not getting any better because humvees, a tank, and a helicopter are on it to make Delta Team’s life hell. But that’s not enough because Delta Team is more adamant on capturing the bald bomb maker. Nothing’s stopping them from doing that as they ram Volk’s car.

25. This Entire Mission Was Intense

The ultranationalists start shooting at innocent civilians on the Zakhaev International Airport
You can choose not to tap right click on your mouse when civilians are there. Image Credits: Activision

Remember? No Russian? There’s no need to tell OG players the unfolding of events in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 mission “No Russian.” This still stands as one of the most controversial levels, not just in the history of Call of Duty but in the history of gaming. You are playing as PFC. Joseph Allen, who is on an undercover assignment.

Allen is disguised as one of the terrorists who are about to shoot civilians at the fictional Zakhaev International Airport. He is gaining the trust of ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov. And make no mistake, because if you make one mistake, like shoot at one of them, they won’t shout “friendly fire” like the Rangers. Those empathyless men will empty their entire machine guns on you.

The game gives you an option to skip this mission too. And if you still choose to play it, and uuhhmm…, enjoy killing those NPCs. Go see a psychologist, dude.

24. The Final Showdown at the Washington Monument Site

A destroyed Washington Monument site is visible from the air
A lot of choppers will fall after this. IYKYK. Image Credits: Activision

US Army Rangers have just kicked the hell out of enemy forces who had occupied many buildings at the Washington Monument Site. But it still isn’t enough, for the enemy is still lingering around. So they had to evacuate in a Black Hawk chopper, where they provided support from the air. We have a minigun at our disposal, and the scene outside is scary. Ruined buildings, rising fumes, and the crawling enemy forces appear from the chopper as if ants.

Evacuation is under progress to avoid more harm from the enemy, but Rangers from the 75th Ranger Regiment decide to provide support from the air and rain hell using the minigun from their chopper. Enemies are running on the ground, firing from buildings, and aiming the US Army choppers as best they can, but the Rangers are roasting them alive.

Dagger Two, the MH-6 Little Bird helo we are in, is hit but manages to stay in the air. Dagger Two is a limping dog in the air. It makes the final run to clear SAMs on a building’s rooftop, but they are so many of them that Dagger Two isn’t enough to take them out alone. It goes down. It fought well.

23. Going Up and Down the Hill

The player is about to call an airstrike on the enemy
You can use a lot of airstrikes in this mission to make things a bit easier. Image Credits: Activision

What is more frustrating when you have made your way up a hill while shooting at enemy personnel adamant on putting a bullet in your head, and when you learn that the extracting team who is coming to save you from all this chaos wants you to go back down from where you came? The frustration becomes real clear when you hear Gaz say,

“We just busted our arses to get to this LZ and now they want us to go all the way back down?”

There’s too much heat in this aptly called mission ‘Heat’ because the SAS team has laid a splendid plan and a lot of explosives to clear the enemy personnel, but all of their efforts are in vain. They are cornered in a barn on the top of the hill with tanks and ultranationalist forces trying to crush their holding position. Thank God there’s a Stinger missile in the barn.

22. Falling Missiles in the Sea

Misslies falls from above into the sea
There’s one tiny cinematic sequence when the Delta team is escaping on water. Image Credits: Activision

This happens after the hind fight in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Delta Force has just blown up a huge submarine called Hunter Killer (also the mission’s name), which is carrying missiles to attack the New York harbor. The team fiddled with controls, and now the submarine is going all bananas, sending missiles all over the sea, killing its own.

The Delta team is escaping on a Zodiac, going in full speed on the water as missiles fall down on large ships and sending huge waves of water our way. We have only few seconds until we can reach the extraction chopper and get the hell outta there.

21. Dodging the Falling Trees in Snow

Captain Price running ahead as he spots a BTR
This mission is kind of similar to the level Ultimatum from the previous game. Image Credits: Activision

A small stealth maneuver turns chaotic for Roach and Captain Price while they moves quietly through the snow after swiping down multiple enemies. Price notices a BTR fast approaching them and starts firing at them. Bang, bang, bang… Just like that. They both just start running through a line of trees.

The BTR keeps firing on their trajectory as they run beneath, and dodging, the falling trees. You cannot look back, you cannot stop, because then your heart will stop and you’ll have to face this abomination of a machine again. When the BTR attack is over, you can again go on to carry out your stealth kills until you reunite with the rest of Task Force 141.

20. Hopping Off Favela’s Tin Roofs Gone Wrong

Members of Task Force 141 jumps off the rooftops
Soap and Roach probably never talked about this moment ever. Image Credits: Activision

Task Force 141 is in the same position as the US Army Rangers were in those alleyways of Afghanistan. The difference is that TF141 is stuck in a Favela in Brazil, trying to escape as they have captured, tortured, and extracted information from Alejandro Rojas. Nikolai is flying over a landing zone that is too hot to land, so Soap and the rest of the team had to run through the tin roofs, which can get real slippery.

They do get slippery. Again, for Roach, and we again see MacTavish throwing his athletic body to save his comrade hanging from the edge of a tin top. Sadly, this time Roach falls. Thankfully, he isn’t a thousand feet above the ground. He gets unconscious, but a shadow of a large group of militia opens his eyes wide awake and he runs for his life. Runs until he reaches the edge of a cliff (again, man!) and jumps towards the chopper. Another mini heart attack awaits you.

19. The Underground Metro Chase

An enemy shoots from behind the train door
A proper gut wrenching sequence lies ahead after the mission ends. Image Credits: Activision

This is not a good day for thw passengers of London metro. Terrosists have taken over a train with guns and some trucks carrying SAS soldiers are chasing it. The dark tunnel walls are flashing with gun fires and explosions from RPGs. This intense chase did not end well for anyone involved in it.

SAS manages to stop the train. It goes crashing down but it takes all the trucks with it. We wake up with despaired senses after dodging and firing all those bullets and bombs in that high speed chase. A shadowy figure approaches us and it almost feels like it’s Ghost. But it’s only Sergeant Wallcroft trying to communicate with the rest. Everyone’s dead.

18. Death From Above

SAS soldiers watch AC-130 clear their way with its firepower
Most of this mission requires stealth. Image Credits: Activision

Whoever has played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games at least once in their life knows that controlling an AC-130 gunship is pure thrill. It literally rains fire from the above and can easily swipe away enemy personnel it sees through its lens quite fast. But the vastness of its destruction is first seen from the ground in the mission ‘The Hunted’ when the SAS soldiers are extracting their informant Nikolai after their chopper is struck by a missile and they have to cross fields laden with enemy soldiers and a search chopper.

As they comes close to the end of their mission, SAS soldiers see a large enemy patrol ahead, which seems impossible to get past. Especially after they have fought for this long and are running low on bullets. But Warhammer is just hovering in the airspace, and as soon as Price gives it the coordinates, we hear a bang echo from the sky. And in the next moments, it’s a firework display on the ground.

“Bloody outrageous mate!” Gaz speaks charged with euphoria as he watches the enemy becoming toast.

17. Riding Snowmobiles on a Steep Hill

Riding a snowmobile on full speen down the snowy hill
You’ll feel your gut churning. Image Credits: Activision

This is the fastest someone has ever gone on ground vehicles in the entire subseries. Roach and Soap has just destroyed a entire enemy base and now the entire army is after them. Helicopters are firing missiles and soldiers on snowmobiles are firing at both as they make their way accelerating snowmobiles with one and and firing at enemy with the other.

Their ride is here but it can only extract them from on the other side of a steep hill they need to cross. And boy there’s trees everywhere and Roach needs to dodge them while going at what feels like a hundred miles an hour. Even a small touch and Roach will go flying and falling. Maybe that’ll feel like a falling dream. Reminds of lyrics of that song Jeff Bridges sings in the film Crazy Heart, “Funny how fallin’ feels like flyin’, For a little while.”

It’s a full throttle ride they’ll never forget. While they are alive, of course.

16. Chasing Vladimir Makarov

Yuri shoots Makarov then Makarov shoots Yuri back while Makarov's chopper burns in flames in the background.
Makarov sure was one tough bastard. Image Credits: Acivision

The moment finally arrives when Price and Makarov comes face to face. We can’t say who hates the other more but Price sure is a raging bull here because of Soap’s death in Prague. Makarov thinks he can escape in his little chopper but Price isn’t letting him go and jumps on the chopper and crashes it on the roof of the high-rise building it took off from.

Chopper’s down in flames, Makarov’s out of the chopper, Price is on the ground. Makaraov almost shoots Price but Yuri shoots Makarov from behind, and Price takes advantage of the situation and grabs him by the neck before slamming down. And now it’s Price punching the hell out of Makarov. You should see Makarov’s face, there’s not a sign of fear. In fact, you’ll get a feeling that if you stop punching him, you are a dead man. Like Thor chopping the head off Thanos’s body in fear.

15. Tanks Driving in Car Parking

Tanks moving up the drive aisle inside a car parking
Building management is not happy. Image Credits: Activision

You know what they should do with all the vehicle parkings? Put a sign outside saying that tanks are not allowed. Because US Army soldiers will just barge in unannounced and move through the driving aisle carefree while shooting at enemies with a minigun of that tank. They stay in a trance.

Only when they have moved up a couple of floors did they realize that something is wrong, becuase then the aisle can’t take the weight of these elephants of machines and breaks down. All the tanks comes falling down the floors, leaving big holes on every floor above. The management will want a compensation from the army.

14. Popping Green Flares to Prevent Flattening of a City

Corporal Dunn shows green flares to the F-15 fighter jets
Rangers never got the chance to exact revenge from Moscow. Image Credits: Activision

You are tired and in a race against time after dodging falling helicopters in a MW2 mission called Second Sun. There are still enemy forces at large, and the Central Command has decided to flatten the city using Hammerdown Protocol, sort of a last resort strategy for Military where flattening a city is the only option left. Commamd thinks the soldiers are not able to fend off the enemies. So best contain the spread.

But soldiers are still hopeful and able to retake the city. But the Central Command doesn’t know that, and Rangers can’t communicate this at the moment because Captain Price sent an EMP missile in the air which disabled almost all the digital tech in the US. But the White House still has some power left. So there is still a way to communicate with the Central Command and stop the full-scale destruction of the city.

In any way, you have to reach the top of the White House and pop green flares to show the F-15 Eagles that they can abort the mission. It is literally a do or die situation there.

13. Two Ghosts Outta Cave

Soap aiming down Shadow Company mercenaries entering inside a cave
Price gets lost and almost becomes a poet in the intro of this mission. Image Credits: Activision

Soap and Price are clearing a dark cave like two ghosts chasing General Shepherd for his deeds. Most of it is done using stealth, but they reach a point where Shepherd’s Shadow Company just turns off whatever the lights there are in the cave and enters to kill these two ghosts haunting the cave, but to no avail. Shadow Company should’ve left the lights on.

But it doesn’t end here because just outside the cave, they have to cross a catwalk, and the Shadow Company mercenaries are coming their way, firing. Soap is holding a riot shield, and behind him is Captain Price firing at them. Both are walking on a ledge. One wrong step and they both will go tumbling down.

12. Soap Saving Roach on an Icy Escarpment

Soap holding Roach as they both hangs from an ice sheet
If you’ll watch Soap waiting for you on the other side, you can see him signalling you to jump. Image Credits: Activision

Roach is hanging on for his life from a thin sheet of ice that he and Soap just tried to climb using ice picks. The ice sheet refused to take Roach’s weight. The ground is below thousands of feet from where they are, and, in any case, chances are slim if they tried to land on their feet from that height. There probably are no feet left if they did survive that fall.

But thanks to the daring Brit, John MacTavish, who appears like a ghost from the fog just while Roach is holding on to his dear life. First-timers may get a mini heart attack for a split second in this moment, just like Roach did because he probably had pulled himself up if Soap didn’t approach him like a falling boulder. But rest assured, this boulder holds Roach and throws him above, and both reach the top to unleash hell on the cold mountain.

11. The Hold Below the Ferris Wheel

The player is looking at the Ferris Wheel
Finishing this mission in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is almost impossible when played on Veteran difficulty. Image Credits: Activision

Two men are to hold up an entire army of ultranationalists until their reinforcements arrive. Price and MacMillan have successfully sneaked past through buildings of the ghost town they recently awakened, but they have reached a dead end.

Now they have set up a two-man shop below a large Ferris wheel where MacMillan with his strained leg, whom Price has carried after that encounter with the helicopter, will provide sniper support while sitting in dry grass, and Price sets up whatever Claymore he has left in the open fields and uses bullets effectively so he can keep both alive until a Chinook helicopter arrives to lift them up.

The enemies will flock in from every direction, on foot and from air through the choppers. You aren’t just shooting at the enemies but also making sure that you won’t leave MacMillan alone for too long because some ultranationalist can get close to him and murder him while he is busy looking through his sniper scope.

10. Flying Men, Firing at Men

Men in a gunfight suspended in air inside the plane
There’s one massive explosion awaits not everyone can stomach. Image Credits: Activision

This is probably the most unique gunfight in all the Call of Duty games that have come to date. We are in a plane that’s carrying President Vorshevsky and his daughter, some other officials, and the agents protecting them. They are en-route to a peace conference happening in Hamburg.

Before they can reach the peace conference, the peace is interrupted on the plane by some hijackers, who are trying to kidnap the president. Agents protect the president as they then engage with the hijackers. During this, the plane stalls a bit and sends everyone flying inside due to zero gravity in the moment. The agents and hijackers shoot at each other, not letting the gravity disrupt the fight.

9. Escape From a Sinking Ship

SAS soldiers jumping in a chopper
The fighter jets that attack the ship and addressed as “fast movers” are MiG-29s. Image Credits: Activision

The iconic Captain Price and his skilled team of SAS soldiers are retrieving what is suspected to be a nuclear device on a floating ship in the middle of an ocean that feels to have come alive by a massive storm. But before they can scan everything, some fast-moving fighter jets attack the ship. Now it’s just a sinking ship in the middle of the ocean with SAS soldiers running for their lives as their chopper awaits hanging in the air.

We control John MacTavish in this mission, who is on the ground amid this chaos, and Price comes and pulls him up and shouts,

“On your feet, soldier. We are leaving!”

There’s only one thing to do now: run for your life as the ship keeps tilting to the left and filling itself with streams of ocean water coming in from every hole it can find. They make it to the chopper just in the nick of time, but Price had to save Soap from falling into the sea. “Gotcha!” he says as he pulls him in and we watch the exploding ship being swallowed by the sea.

8. Eiffel Tower Falls

The Eiffel Tower standing between what has become a battlefield
Those who wish to see this happen in real life just for fun should be kept behind a locked door. Image Credits: Activision

In the previous game, creators decided to ruin the Washington Monument site. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, they picked another marvel of the world, Eiffel Tower. You could see a behemoth of an army crawling beneath the Eiffel Tower like ants. Delta Team don’t have enough bullets to deal with them. Those bullets won’t even dent the moving tanks anyway.

They have an air support though, which is raining large shells on enemies to keep them away from soldiers before a fleet of extraction helicptors arrive. The site is too hot to land and Delta Team don’t have any purple smoke left for air support to mark the targets. There’s only one thing to do, pour down all the aresnal the air support is carrying. So Sandman gives a green light. The final bomb run cripples the Tower, which falls with a massive splash in the water. It takes seconds and not even minutes for Eiffel Tower to become Ei-fell Tower.

7. Leaving Mines in a Chopper

From left, Truck. Sandman, and Grinch, keeps firing at the enemies so that Price and others can leave the mines in time
Grinch, Truck, and Sandman saved them as if they were the Holy Trinity. They were. Image Credits: Activision

Team Price and Team Sandman are in Eastern Siberia for a joint operation to rescue President Vorshevsky, whom Makarov has kept inside a mine. The teams make their way inside and rappel down. But it’s too hot, so many enemies trying to stop them from extracting the President. Plus the entire mine is crumbling from all the explosions and stuff. But they pull Vorshevsky out and take him to the chopper one really skilled pilot brought down the mine.

Everyone is inside except for Grinch, Sandman, and Truck, who are still holding the line of enemies at bay so everyone can escape. The chopper rises up in the air to get out of the mines and Price keeps yelling at his walkie talkie in hope that Sandman will respond.

6. Raining Helicopters in D.C.

A soldier helps Ramirez who is stuck in a chopper while an explosion happens in the background
What happens to that astronaut in space? Image Credits: Activision

After their last stand in air with Dagger Two at the Washington Monument site, the Rangers are down and trying to fight off the enemy forces with whatever weapons cache they have left with them. There’s about to happen an event that is both good and bad for the current situation they are in. That EMP missile Price launched in the air goes off in the atmosphere.

Now it’s good because it has disabled all the electrical equipment around the Washington Monument site and given the Rangers a tactical advantage. All they have to do is to get out of there. The problem is, it’s raining outside. Raining helicopters. Everywhere you step, you’ll probably see a drop of helo falling around you. A phonemenon like this should be called ‘the Helli-copters’ because it made the soldiers’ lives hell.

5. Guarding the ACS

For the hardcore Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans, this is the most heartbreaking mission. But we are not here to talk about heartbreaks. We are talking about something breath-take. And one of those breathtaking moments comes when Ghost and a piece of Task Force 141 is clearing Makarov’s safehouse in the middle of mountains, securing some high-value data into the ACS module they brought with them.

Just when they start the transfer, Makarov’s men come flocking in from every direction you turn your eye to. You have to guard the ACS with your life and the weapons caches that lie stuffed in the safehouse. This particular sequence in the mission developers designed with one thing in their mind: don’t let the players stand still.

4. Sneaking Past the Platoon in a Wasteland

The player watches the tanks and soldiers approach.

What would you do if you were just two men without backup and saw a large platoon of enemy soldiers walking towards you? And they have tanks moving with them. That is more or less the same thing that happens with Captain Macmillan and Lieutenant Price in one of the most talked about missions in the series called “All Ghillied Up.”

They are crossing a wasteland and hear the buzzing of tanks and probably felt the ground shaking. All they can do is get down in the grass because it’s an open field and there’s nowhere to run. They can’t even shoot. They are sitting ducks. Ducks who can’t quack because then the enemy will roast them with bullets.

3. The Perfect Aim

And Price screams after, Saaoooop! Image Credits: Activision

One of the most iconic moments in the entire Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games is the time when Soap is lying with a knife stabbed in his stomach and General Shepherd is pouring punches down Captain Price, much like what Price did with Makarov’s face in MW3. It seems like they both are about to meet their maker, but Soap pulls himself up somehow.

He uses whatever strength is left inside him to pull the knife out of his body, and he has to do it quick or Shepherd will just kill Price with his bare hands. He does that and takes the final aim on the enemy. And, watt’an aim, Soap boy!

2. The Nuke

The flash of light as the nuke goes off

This is the most devastating moment in the series. This is the moment when 30,000 soldiers lost their lives in the blink of an eye, as General Shephard tells Soap just before the above sequence while loading his .44 Magnum with bullets.

We are looking for terrorist Al-Asad at this level, but it turns out there is a live nuke at the site. So all the soldiers are ordered to clear the area before the bomb goes off and turns the entire city into ash. The choppers are going at full speed with soldiers inside them holding on for their dear lives. But one of the choppers is shot down, and Lt. Vasquez decides to save the pilot. His crew gets down, and Paul, the player we control here, pulls the Cobra pilot from the downed helo and gets her back to safety.

All of it is in vain because as we leave the city, we see the blinding flash as the nuke goes off and choppers getting hit with the shockwave, going spiraling down as we watch in horror. All that remains after is a mushroom cloud in the middle of a wasteland as a symbol of the 30,000 deaths of soldiers it just claimed.

1. Compromised in the Hanger

And we have a winner, and two runners, here. Soap and Roach have just stepped into an enemy facility after climbing up a mountain and almost falling down a thousands of feet off an icy escarpment. They are retrieving the ACS module. Roach goes in a room to pick it up while Soap fiddles with a sattelite inside the hangar they are in. Just when Roach picks up the ACS, the hangar’s door opens and Soap is compromised.

Major Petrov threatens to kill Soap over a speaker while Roach is still inside. Soap calmly tells Roach to switch to “Plan B.” Roach watches standing from above behind the guardrails and takes out a remote control. The moment he clicks, you’ll see a mountain base covered in cold white fog turning into a mountain base ablaze in flames and covered in thick black smoke. They run for their lives.
