Cosmo Tales Brings Out the Child in us With its Fun and Simple Gameplay

Throughout Gamescom week, I had the opportunity to get a hands-on experience with Cosmo Tales, an upcoming game from the developer Bohemia Interactive that puts the player in control of a car that can fly through space while using various weapons to fight enemies in a roguelite ship-to-ship combat game filled with wacky music, multiple stories, and even alternate dimensions that alter how you play the game.

During my time with the game, I was able to try out a small section of the game, which consisted of a few maps that were randomly generated, full of healing plants, hidden pickups, and enemies for me to fight. What made these locations fun was that they weren’t just there to create a location but also to aid you in your fight against the enemies’ place before you, as I was able to use the asteroids around me as cover, as a way to heal using the healing plants, and even as an escape route to gain a breather if needed.

Along with this, I was able to play through the 3 different dimensions that the game offers, with the first being a standard dimension where my capabilities are rather balanced; the second being slightly slower with the music in the game changing tone and my ship having a shield that takes a few hits before being broken if hit consecutively; or the final dimension that speeds my ship up drastically with its dodges and general boost speed.

Each of these dimensions allowed me to play in completely different styles when needed, as there were instances where speed was more important in order to evade the onslaught of bullets coming towards me or even using said speed boost to rush towards the next gate needed to move on in the game or using the shield dimension to protect myself from the boss and its attacks once I arrived towards the end of the section I was able to play.

What made Cosmo Tales interesting was its roguelite mechanics and pickups that you could acquire along the way, as the upgrades were able to massively boost how well you were in combat while also being extremely random, meaning that you were constantly creating a new build each and every attempt while also still coming across perks and weapons that you had already found and were used to.

Although I wasn’t able to complete the story I played, I was able to battle one of the bosses and catch a small glimpse as to what is to come, and it did intrigue me quite a lot, and with the fun music in the background, the game is looking to be a lot of fun for players who are looking for something to load into and just have a fun time with.

If you are looking to play Cosmo Tales, you luckily won’t have to wait long, as the game is set to launch into early access on September 3rd, 2026, for PC players.
