Warlock’s Gameplay Showcase Brings the Eldritch Power Fantasy and Fantasy Atmosphere to Life

After witnessing the trailer for Warlock during Opening Night Live of Gamescom, I was granted the opportunity to see a showcase for Warlock where I was able to see how the game is played, the various spells that players will be able to use, and more.

During this showcase, I was able to witness the same section of gameplay that was shown during Opening Night Live, but instead of just witnessing the gameplay, I was able to see this section of gameplay with commentary as well as the UI of the game, which looks to be quite simple and easy to use with it only being a few button prompts rather than numerous button combinations, but this could change closer to release.

Throughout this gameplay showcase, we were shown how Warlock will allow the player to manipulate the elements in order to solve puzzles within the game, whether it be manipulating water over a fire, manipulating the oil that is on fire and turning it into a small fire ball, or even creating a rain storm through a spell that takes ingredients and preperation.

All of these are just the tip of the iceberg within Warlock, as there are numerous spells that the player can use both within and without combat. You can use a tentacle spell to grab items as you explore or to grab an enemy’s weapons in a pinch to stun them, or you can use spells like Eldritch Blast to defeat enemies or to explode boxes and barrels that are in your way; the options are limitless, as there are plenty more spells to use and abuse within the game.

Sadly this showcase didn’t allude any further to what the game’s story is except for what we saw during Opening Night Live, which is that the player will take control of the main character Kaatri as she explores the world for raw magic in order to find someone that she has lost while being aided by a witch known as Tasha.

However, during this showcase we were granted a small glimpse of the map of Warlock, which looks to be very large with lots of locations to search through. Sadly, it is hard to compare as to how large this map will be, as the world was covered in a fog of war hiding the actual locations except for their names, but there does seem to be a large open world for players to explore that will keep them busy for hours on end.

What makes this interesting is that players will be able to explore this game world through side quests that will be hidden within the various towns and locations where the player will have to search for information in order to tackle the side objects hidden within.

It was also revealed that Kaatri will be a master of weapons within Warlock, as she can use and upgrade various weapons at blacksmiths throughout the game to make herself stronger and more of a threat within combat, as she can get closer to her opponents and deal more damage with her melee weapons rather than just simply relying on her abilities.

As of the time of writing, Warlock is set to release in 2027 with a more accurate release date to be announced, with the game coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
