Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was a passion project from a group of talented developers with a shared love for the JRPG genre. It is rare to see smaller teams come out swinging with an ambitious game that left a positive impact on the gaming community. While the story can stand on its own, some fans would love to see more stories be told in the Canvas world with other expeditioners.

Fortunately, this title isn’t just a one-and-done, especially since Guillauma Broche set the record straight. If you fell in love with this world, expect to see more content in the future.

This Is Only the Beginning for the Clair Obscur Franchise

If you have played through the amazing campaign of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you will know that there are two potential outcomes, but both are equally sad in their own right. Regardless of the canon outcome, creative director Guillaume Broche made it clear that there are more stories to tell beyond the lives of Alicia and Verso.

In a recent interview, Broche sat down and revealed that there are more stories to tell in this world. This is a subtle confirmation of a potential sequel that could feature characters from the original game, or something new entirely set within the same world.

Sandfall Interactive struck gold with the franchise and has no plans to stop anytime soon. The developers recently rolled out a new update that somewhat improved the gameplay quality, along with a few necessary changes.

“Exactly what it will look like and what the concept will be is still too soon to announce, but what is sure is that this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise.”

Broche is being careful with his words, but it is safe to say that the writers behind the game are already gearing up for the future. Perhaps it could be a direct sequel where the developers reveal which ending is canon, or a new story featuring the Dessendre family and their conflict with the Painters’ society.

The success and critical acclaim of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have given Broche the confidence to speak more about their upcoming plans, albeit without revealing too much.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Epic Games Store and Steam.
