Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is currently in development, and after nearly 10 years of waiting since the release of the second in the franchise, and fans have been waiting somewhat patiently, and now, we have our first proper look at gameplay in the upcoming trilogy closer. Full details below.
Per Bandai Namco:
Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. today released a new gameplay trailer for DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3, taking players deeper into the combat systems and showcasing the theme of connection that ties them together. Set in the unexplored era of AGE 1000, the long-awaited sequel in the action RPG series lets players choose the hero they want to become and fight alongside DRAGON BALL heroes who once protected Earth. DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3 is coming to PlayStation®5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam® in 2027.
The new trailer follows a rookie member of the Great Saiya Squad through a complete mission, showcasing the core gameplay systems of DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3. As players progress through missions with squads of up to four, they must adapt their tactics from battling waves of enemies to taking on powerful bosses. Throughout every encounter, their connection to original DRAGON BALL characters is a foundational part of the setting and mechanics in the game. Connections shape how players build their character, customize their abilities, and fight alongside iconic heroes.
In DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3, Ki is at the center of every fight. Players can drain an opponent’s Ki through combos, charged attacks, and Ki Drain-type Super Attacks, forcing enemies into Ki Break status and leaving them vulnerable to Break Smash, a devastating finisher that deals significantly more damage than standard Super Attacks. Super Attacks come in multiple types, each with its own secondary effect, while Ultimate Attacks unleash powerful cinematic blows once their gauge is filled. Each character’s Battle Style also influences their move set and combo chains, allowing players to fight using techniques inspired by legendary warriors such as Goku and Vegeta.
The trailer also highlights how Soul Assist works in the game, which lets players summon a DRAGON BALL character to unleash one of their signature attacks once the Assist Gauge is full. Soul Switch allows players to temporarily channel a chosen character’s soul, transforming their appearance and dramatically enhancing their combat abilities. Players can also awaken race-specific transformations, including Super Saiyan, with additional races and playstyles to be revealed in the future.
Bandai Namco will continue revealing exciting details about DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3 in the months to come.
Soul Assist looks to be a real game-changer in the game, and with it bringing back iconic characters, it’ll ease players with the whiplash of a new roster. Similarly, Soul Switch sounds like it’ll allow us to see our favourite characters semi-regularly, whilst also affording a competitive and gameplay edge to its use.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is currently in development for PlayStation, XBOX Series X|S, and PC, and due to release sometime in 2027.
