One of the most intense things you can do in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is to battle a large BT. There are moments around the Australian continent where Sam will be trapped and will be left with no choice but to make a stand. Sometimes, not every porter brings a multitude of weapons in their backpacks, leaving them defenseless.

Fortunately, the developers found a way to work around this problem and even highlight the franchise’s theme of connecting. One player discovered the hard way that they are never alone in a fight and that other porters, or players, have their backs.

In the original Death Stranding, players would be running for their lives if they ran out of hematic grenades or ammo while fighting a large BT. However, during the fight, a white figure would climb underneath the tar bearing gifts, such as new weapons and extra blood bags. This is a clever way for Kojima Productions to show that other players got your back, even though you can’t see them in-game or in real-time.

This mechanic is back in the sequel and polished even further by confirming that these Porters are other versions of Sam. In other words, every player is a version of Sam in some capacity, and is travelling the same road to make their next delivery. This time, the white figures resemble Sam’s hair and facial features, further proving they are a different version of the same character, and they can help fight back after throwing gifts.

In the clip above, Sam is battling a massive BT and is being pursued by one of the golden humanoid projectiles. These BTs can corner Sam and immediately kill him in a fight, which can be annoying. Other players will likely show up to throw extra gear and even cheer you on, but in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, this feature allows them to be directly involved in the fight by wrestling BTs.

This is a valuable feature to have, especially if you’re low on ammunition and don’t have time to relieve yourself to scare BTs away. Hideo Kojima is adamant to show that the Death Stranding franchise is more about bringing people together, and this feature could help out newer porters who are dipping their toes into this game.
