Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is proof that the turn-based fighting genre is still in demand today, and how a small team of talented developers can achieve greatness. Sandfall Interactive is comprised mostly of young blood in the video game industry, and is paired with a few seasoned veterans, all of whom share a passion for gaming.
While the whole world is unanimously praising the first Clair Obscur title and is banking hard to win every major award, the director isn’t too focused on that. It is a testament to Guillaume Broche’s humility and unique view of collecting roses and respect.
Director Guillaume Broche Is Satisfied With How Fans Are Receiving Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

After celebrating an impressive milestone of 5 million sales since launch, Sandfall Interactive spilled the beans and gave fans something to look forward to. The gaming community can expect plenty of new content for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, including new enemies, new dungeons, and cosmetics. There is plenty more to enjoy from this game.
In a recent interview, Broche revealed his thoughts about the chances of potentially winning Game of the Year.
“Game of the Year isn’t something we really aim for; it should just be a consequence of making a good game, not really the goal”
The way the gaming community responded to the early days of the game was the satisfaction and reward that Sandfall Interactive was aiming for. Broche earned the respect and praise from his colleagues and fans, which is more than enough for him.
“Our philosophy is that we’ve already achieved so much more than we wanted to achieve. We’ve received so many beautiful messages from players around the world saying that the game changed their lives and helped them through tough times. There’s so much love, and we are, in exchange, so grateful.”
Broche is well aware that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a great game and is happy with the reception alone. However, he has shared his own personal pick, and to no one’s surprise, it is another indie title that has taken the world by storm.
Megabonk Is Guillaume Broche’s Pick for Game of the Year

While talking about personal favorites, Broche did not shy away and admitted that Megabonk has taken over his life.
“I don’t know if it’s a serious one, but I’m spending way too much time on Megabonk right now,”
It is unsurprising that Broche went with another indie for his pick for Game of the Year. Megabonk is a new hit roguelike experience that is taking over Steam players like a storm. Perhaps the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has given small developers the confidence they need to make their dreams a reality.
Whether Broche wants to admit it or not, there is a decent chance Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be raking up awards in the upcoming shows. If it manages to win Game of the Year, this is just a bonus since they have already won after rave reviews and praise from the community.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
