It’s inarguable that Techland is a developer that is pushing the envelope with regards to supporting older games, with its continual updating of all three games in the Dying Light franchise. Yesterday, they added to the long list of updates for Dying Light 2: Stay Human with ‘The Breach’, an update that promises wholesale changes to a variety of aspects to the game. However, it’s the massive upheaval to the prologue that fans have issues with, as shown below.
Wow, I've just seen what Techland with Dying Light 2's prologue and who on earth thought that was a good idea?

REMOVING SPIKE? THE HOUSE PART? THE EASTER EGGS. That prologue was so good. Spike was a legend of a character. There's no logical reason to remove him at all. Now it's… pic.twitter.com/glbKwrJSRm
After reaching out to Techland with a few questions regarding the update and the Prologue changes specifically, they supplied a few answers. Whether this placates or worries the fan base will yet to be seen though. When asked what benefit changing the prologue, which contains so many iconic scenes and characters (introduction to Spike and Mia, for example|), gave the team behind The Breach, Techland said:
We streamlined the opening so players can reach the open world, co-op, and core gameplay much faster. Many new players told us they wanted to get into the action sooner, so this supports that while maintaining tone and atmosphere. The benefit is improved pacing and earlier access to core gameplay systems.
Nothing in the main story has been lost. We’ve rebalanced the pacing so key motivations and world-building still land clearly. Any references that previously relied on longer scenes have been updated or reinforced elsewhere to keep the narrative clear for first-time players.
Some players rightfully were angry, and wondered if this’d be changed back or reverted in the future. When pushing this question, Techland replied:
We are actively listening to the community. Some early sections were trimmed, which does affect certain characters. We know how much long-time fans value these moments, so we’re exploring ways to highlight legacy characters and lore in future updates without slowing down the early game experience.
Due to Techland being so proactive to continuous updates and support for its flagship franchise, I thought it a good idea to ask if there were any other changes planned in the future with regards to established moments/story/lore that players should be aware of and prepare for:
We do have further refinements planned across upcoming patches, but we want to be clear about how we’re approaching them: these changes are guided first and foremost by player feedback. A lot of this work also draws on what we learned from Dying Light: The Beast – there were elements there that really resonated with players, and we’re bringing those lessons back into Dying Light 2: Stay Human where they make sense.
One thing we’d like players to know: nothing is being removed from the game permanently. If something steps out of the spotlight for a while, it’s because it’s coming back – in a new form or a new role. We’re evolving the experience, not taking it away.
What exactly are those further refinements they have planned? We don’t know that yet, but this most recent update has proven the developer isn’t above revisiting past moments and changing or removing them completely. As for what they learned from Dying Light: The Beast, we loved our time with that when it released, as did a lot of other people.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human Players React to ‘The Breach’ Changes
Players were understandably annoyed when booting up Dying Light 2: Stay Human after the most recent update, and finding wholesale changes. The below is a small snapshot of the reactions on offer.
Dying Light 2 New Update made some massive changes in the game that people are disliking.

The Prologue is shorten with spike scenes completely removed.
But there are more stuff added in this update that are good.

Techland butchering so much content on Dying Light 2 is diabolical.

What do you mean you cut out an entire prologue & so much lore?
Is this Tencent's influence?
What the Hell?!
Thank goodness I have my POV of the prologue from years ago…https://t.co/fU4SohCXj8
