Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy Reveals New Companion, Saro, A Sanctioned Psyker

After a hugely successful first entry in its new Warhammer 40,000 CRPG franchise, Owlcat Games are going full throttle with its upcoming sequel, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. Currently in a Closed Beta test, we now have our first look at a new Companion in the game, Saro. Full details below.

Per Owlcat Games:

Today, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy introduces the companion Saro, a sanctioned psyker, as the Inquisition embraces even sinners as long as they are useful. Saro is one of the ten companions players of the currently running Closed Beta can recruit; a new trailer published by Owlcat Games Today shows how his trials have made him into a powerful weapon.

Psykers are sensitive to the warp, which grants them powerful abilities but also makes them extremely vulnerable, as they can succumb to the powers of chaos at any moment. They are either hunted down and killed or, if they are deemed useful enough, turned into tools of the Imperium. This is what happened to Saro: when his powers manifested themselves at a young age, he underwent a rigorous and harrowing sanctioning process and now wields his pyromantic flames in service of the Tyrentine Cabal of the Inquisition. Even though he is now deemed a sinner who will never be granted the blessed light of the God-Emperor, his iron will and fervent belief in the Imperium have helped him survive countless battles as well as the lure of the warp.

In combat, his enormous psychic powers manifest as pyromancy, as he can incinerate his foes by creating firestorms, leaving no heretic alive. These powers come at a cost, though. If used excessively, they create disturbances in the Empyrean, calling forth warp phenomena and creatures of the warp who can make any combat situation more difficult. And while Saro’s powers of destruction are formidable and his knowledge of supernatural phenomena is useful during the Inquisition’s investigations, he is not known for his physical strength…

Fans can recruit Saro in the current Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy closed beta, available to everyone who purchased one of the Founder’s packs at darkheresy.owlcat.games.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is currently in development for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC, while the release date is currently unknown.
