Cult of Blood is the debut title of independent developer Dusty Box and is a love letter to the horror genre in video games. You will fill the shoes of a police officer doing their duty to protect and serve, but what you will face in this game is something they did not train for in the academy.

Tensions are high, and you can only count on yourself to get through this insane problem. While the developers nailed the look and vibe inspired by the classic Resident Evil games, aspects of the narrative were inspired by real-life events.

The developers have dug deep into the roots of classic horror video games for their debut title. Dusty Box means to deliver a cinematic experience that would send chills down the players’ spines, and dialled it to a new level by using real events for the narrative. Cult of Blood follows a police officer responding to a scene that seems to have been stuck in time, and things will only get stranger from there.

You will then face the locals who are devoid of souls, serving a new evil as they ascend to godhood by offering you as a sacrifice. As you progress, you will learn more about the cult and acquire better gear to take on the soulless villagers. Unfortunately, ammunition is extremely limited, and this will pose a challenge if you don’t feel comfortable with getting your hands dirty.

Here are some key features you can expect in Cult of Blood:

  • Cinematic Horror – Fixed camera angles and chilling cutscenes create a film-like atmosphere.
  • Classic-Inspired Controls – Movement is deliberate and tense, capturing the essence of classic survival horror while adding modern refinements.
  • Intense Combat – Risky melee, limited ammunition, and enemy swarms turn every fight into a desperate struggle.
  • Brutal Boss Encounters – Face grotesque foes, culminating in a climactic, multi-phase final battle.
  • Survival & Upgrades – Collect blood souls to unlock new gear or upgrade weapons, and manage supplies carefully to endure the escalating nightmare

This has the makings of a great horror game with a touch of reality. Dusty Box knew how to turn their keys and deliver an experience that would feel familiar, but unique in the best way possible.

Cult of Blood is in active development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam, and will launch sometime in 2026.
