Almost Half of DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Content is Locked Away (and That’s Great News)

Only one short week until we get to go mad and slaughter a whole host of new demons in DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations, and after spending a little over an hour in a behind-closed-doors preview with Hugo Martin and Marty Stratton, there’s a load of new details for us to make the wait a little easier.

From the size of the DLC being that of DOOM Eternal‘s two combined, or the new Chain Spear changing traversal mechanics and making the whole experience far quicker than the original game, to the news that the devs at ID Software are thinking long-term for us, it’s seemingly pointing to a good time. Speaking about the mixture of Base Game and End Game content, Martin said:

“The campaign is made up of two parts. Base game, and end game… About 60% of the experience overall is made up of base game missions, and the rest is Endgame content. So what does Endgame content mean in DOOM? It’s challenges set to Master level difficulty that you will unlock once you complete the Base game. End Game has unique original paths you unlock through the levels, Praetor suit encounters, which are unique, extra hard challenge arenas. Slayer Trials, which are like arcade mode levels complete with scoring elements, puzzles, new powerful End Game resources and upgrades, and best of all, Classic levels.”

Eagle-eyed fans had already noticed the odd inclusion of some less than modern graphics in the reveal trailer, and it turns out we were all correct, with Classic Levels making a return in DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations. Martin continued:

“That’s right, you’ll be able to unlock playable spaces from classic DOOM games. It’s pretty awesome.”

However, that’s still not all. Continuing to add to the massive amount of End Game content, Martin revealed:

“Once you’ve completed all the End Game content from the levels, the fun is not over, because you’ll then acquire the Astral key, which gives you access to the Uber boss. And then after beating him, you unlock the Master Arena key, which gives you access to the Master Arenas, which are four unique, super intense combat spaces.”

Doing all the above is just the beginning though, as doing all that unlocks more content for Ripatorium 3.0, so the grind will never really be over, in the best way.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations releases on July 7th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
