The Last of Us has forever redefined how a story can be told in an interactive medium. Naughty Dog struck gold in telling a tale about hope and love amidst a pandemic and showed the worst of humanity over the decades. The franchise will turn 13 years old in a couple of months, and the director did some digging into early drafts to showcase the story’s origins and hinted at the future.
Neil Druckmann Has Seemingly Confirmed That the Last of Us Part 3 Is No Longer a Pipe Dream

Regardless of how the gaming community felt about the ending of The Last of Us Part 2, it was clear that Naughty Dog did not want to set anything in stone just yet. Abby and Lev could return in the next installment, or lead a spinoff adventure of their own, leaving Ellie as the sole lead of the highly anticipated third sequel. The possibilities are endless, and fans are counting the days for an official reveal.
While Neil Druckmann was rummaging through his garage, he stumbled upon original sketches for an idea that eventually became The Last of Us. The director shared a throwback post on his social media account, which also gave some fans hope of an upcoming announcement:
While it is evident that crafting a story about humanity, revenge, and love can take a toll, Druckmann shifted his focus to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Development for this project began immediately after The Last of Us Part 2 was shipped in 2020, and this was another passion project for the director. Perhaps this game will be a palette cleanser and a much-needed break after all the emotional stress they have endured during the previous game, and an announcement for Part 3 could be on the horizon.
