Smashing two different universes and their characters together isn’t anything new, especially when the two in question are so similar like The Last of Us and The Walking Dead. The similarities between the two has been a discussion for many years since, but now a new question has been asked; ‘what if Rick Grimes ended up in The Last of Us?’
The Last of Us x The Walking Dead
On the face of it, the two universes are pretty similar. Post-apocalyptic, urban wastelands filled with the undead after a plague decimates the world and its inhabitants, with some surviving factions vying for the remaining resources. Of course, the finer points of both push them further away, but the broader strokes are similar enough to warrant comparisons, and in this case, swapping characters between the two.
Over on Reddit, fans have been asking whether the two franchises main protagonists would survive in the other universe, with many agreeing Joel Miller would be fine in The Walking Dead, but the answer for Rick Grimes in The Last of Us warranted much more discussion.
The general consensus did end up with Rick surviving in The Last of Us, albeit with plenty of plot armor (something others pointed out Joel benefited from as well), and luck, whilst others made the correct and fair point of asking which Rick Grimes was under discussion, Andrew Lincoln’s version, or the OG comic book version, which again, prompted more discussion as some felt it was two different answers.

Either way, we may never know the exact answer beyond fan-made mods, and while everything we know about The Last of Us Part 3 doesn’t include a Rick Grimes cameo, we do know the future of the franchise, with Neil Druckmann admitting he has a story for the third chapter, but that’s it currently.
in the meantime, while we wait for The Last of Us Part 3, Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann will be bringing us a new IP in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and we continue to experience the extended The Walking Dead universe with the latest spin-off season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and others besides.
