After years away, Painkiller is almost back, thanks to the guys at Saber Interactive and Anshar Studios. Now, with a brutal, bloody, and visceral reveal trailer below, the studio has allowed us a look at one of the game modes we have in store for us, called ‘Rogue Angel’.
Straight from Anshar Studios:
“Separate from the main campaign, Rogue Angel takes players to a new realm of Purgatory, where you and your friends will advance through procedurally generated arenas, collect tarot cards, weapons, and items along the way, and take on epic bosses. Get a closer look at the mode in today’s trailer, showing fast-paced gameplay where no two runs are the same.”
The new mode looks exactly like we’d expect it to, with all the over-the-top kills, blood aplenty, seemingly insurmountable and undefeatable enemies, and more, all wrapped in a glorious hellscape of gorgeous visuals.
Beyond the Rogue Angel roguelike mode, Painkiller offers much more, with a three-player online co-op mode promised, allowing you to experience the campaign and separate modes together, exploring beautiful and nightmarish locations with one another. It doubles down on the grotesque and nightmarish body horror the original franchise was known for, and offers four different characters to choose from at launch – Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch – each having their own unique perks to boost various attributes. All this whilst you’re desperately trying to redeem yourself and stop Azazel’s demonic invasion of Earth, earning your salvation.
Painkiller is coming to PlayStation 5 (Deluxe), Xbox Series X|S (Deluxe), and PC via Steam on Oct. 21, 2025, and is available to pre-order now.
