Rewilders: The Lost Spring Is an Upcoming Open-World Roguelite Experience That You Shouldn’t Miss

Rewilders: The Lost Spring is an original story developed by the minds behind the gaming community Endling: Extinction Forever. After winning the BAFTA, the developers immediately went to work on a new story that takes the best parts of the roguelite genre and grants players freedom to explore wherever they want. This project is a step up from the studio’s first game and taps into familiar yet powerful themes.

Experience a new and exciting roguelike experience and restore the world to its natural order by fighting against monsters.

In this roguelite adventure, you fill the shoes of Abi, a survivor who will brave the outdoors and face inhumane threats. The premise of Rewilders: The Lost Spring is not too different from many post-apocalyptic stories, where the heroine must uncover the truth behind the plague, but in this case, Abi is on a mission to save her family.

Expect to see exciting gameplay elements, such as the following:

  • Creature collecting — collect Hântu, native creatures with active abilities, status effects, and passive bonuses.
  • Fast-paced third-person combat combining melee, ranged, and Hântu skills.
  • Roguelite elements with randomized rewards, enemies, and starting points, plus a forgiving death and respawn systems.
  • An interconnected world with metroidvania-style progression using gliders, wall runs, grapples, and more.
  • Base-building system: grow plants and fruits to level up your Hântu and unlock permanent buffs.
  • Narrative progression: choose between Memory or Hatred to shape your build and gameplay path.

HeroBeat Studios took everything it learned from Endling: Extinction Forever and took it up a notch. In this game, you will explore various biomes and conquer whatever malevolent creature has taken over. Abi can recruit allies known as the Hântu to help her save her home and family.

As an open-world game, expect to see different ways of transportation and a dynamic sandbox. The reveal trailer featured different biomes that are interconnected in one world. Perhaps each biome has native monsters with various weaknesses and immunities that could pose as a challenge as you progress.

HeroBeat Studios Combined All the Best Parts From the Roguelite Genre and Open-World Structure

The art style of Rewilders: The Lost Spring is a strong choice, especially for a roguelite experience. It is reminiscent of popular films made by Studio Ghibli and shares their passion for telling stories about the environment. Smaller titles like these could raise awareness and spread the word of the battles we face in the world today.

Another interesting tidbit is that the reveal trailer featured Julie Elven, a talented singer known for her work in the Horizon franchise. Both games are about humanity and nature, and it is exciting to hear a short tease for what one can expect to be an impactful soundtrack.

You can now add Rewilders: The Lost Spring to your wishlist on Steam.
