Dying Light: The Beast is out today! For the longest time, Techland fans have been waiting for more zombie-killing carnage after the first DLC for Dying Light 2: Stay Human, and it would have arrived a long time ago if it weren’t for a leak. Now, thanks to that DLC2 leak for the second game, we instead have a bigger, more fleshed-out standalone release in the franchise, bringing back the return of fan-favourite Kyle Crane, and a new gameplay mechanic in some Beastly powers for him.

On top of that, Techland surprised everyone today, announcing that not only is the game out (a day earlier than expected), but it’s also Steam Deck verified! Rendering & Audio Director, Tomasz Szałkowski, said on the announcement:

“As a fan of the Steam Deck, I was personally driven to bring Dying Light: The Beast to the platform. I oversaw every detail to make sure it runs really well, including a special ‘performance’ mode that contains a mix of tweaked settings and special optimizations together with HDR and VRR running smoothly on an OLED display. I’m happy with how the game performs, and I can’t wait for players to try it themselves on September 18th.”

With Techland seemingly being committed to bringing the franchise back to its horror roots in a multitude of ways, none smaller than the return of genuinely terrifying nighttime play again, it’s a nice sign that the studio also wants as many people as possible to play it wherever possible.

For a franchise over 10 years old, it’s also no surprise that the studio has released a ‘Story So Far’ to bring everyone back up to speed, as well as a handy list of improvements and unforgettable moments in Dying Light: The Beast.

Dying Light: The Beast is available right now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
