“This Is What Gaming Is All About”: Lords of the Fallen Is a Positive Display of Crossplay Between Rival Platforms

Lords of the Fallen has been released for quite some time. Despite the rocky launch, the game managed to maintain a loyal player base. CI Games took notes from the success of the Soulslike genre and gave the gaming community something different from mainstream titles. One of the standout features is the co-op feature that enables players across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S to team up and fight together.

This is a silver lining that has often been overlooked, and one that should be highlighted in today’s gaming climate. Playing alongside other players, despite their platform of choice, is a massive win and what gaming has always been about.

The Soulslike genre has been renowned for punishing players; however, it is all part of an elaborate scheme to promote self-improvement. CI Games wanted to do the same with Lords of the Fallen, but to encourage even casual players to test their might against powerful foes. This game is a much easier Soulslike experience where friends can team up or even meet new players from different platforms.

One player recalls the time he was playing online and met a new friend on Xbox. The pair quickly kicked it off and accomplished the impossible together.

The console wars have always been the highlight of each console generation. Players are fighting to prove their platform of choice is superior while hurling insults at the other side to prove a point. Every major gaming platform has been doing the same thing, but they differ in execution. Lords of the Fallen may not be perfect, but the co-op system is fine enough to bring two people from different sides together and remind them what gaming is truly about.
