Over the past few years, the Remothered franchise has had two games released, continuing a dark and twisted story, and now the third game in this franchise, Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy, has made its way into the spotlight, and I was lucky enough to get my hands-on this new game in the Remothered franchise.
For those who have played Remothered in the past, you will no doubt be excited to see the third game in the franchise and hope that it will bring back the familiar gameplay that you are looking for while also rounding off the story that the franchise has been building up to, and the good news is, Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy does both of those things while also bringing along some new features for players to enjoy.
During Gamescom I was able to get my hands on the game in order to try out these new mechanics, and it is safe to say that Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy lives up to the franchise’s name while also bringing in the new gameplay mechanic for players to use to discover secrets and memories of the past.

While I played Remothered: Red Nuns Legacy, I was able to explore a beautiful Sicilian mansion within the game, as this game is set within Sicily, where I was tasked with solving various puzzles to move throughout the house that were quite simple, but what made these puzzles a challenge during the small section I played was the enemies that hunted me down throughout.
When it comes to the puzzles, I was often tasked with finding one item and placing it somewhere else; for example, I had to find a small groom statue within one room to then take it somewhere else. Once I placed it with the wife statue, I was then granted a key to another room. This was just one of the puzzles that the game employed, as there was also a picture puzzle where I had to organise the pictures in the right order to solve a puzzle revealing the path forward.
All of these puzzles sound simple on paper if you are doing them on your own, but when you are being hunted by an enemy that once sees you will attempt to grab you and kill you, the pressure begins to build as avoiding these enemies and stealthing around the mansion becomes much more important, as while you are solving the puzzles, time doesn’t stop outside of said puzzle, meaning that you still need to keep an ear out for what is coming into the room and what is around you so that you can run if needed.
When it comes to these enemies, my experience with them was that they were relatively simple to avoid, as you only need to avoid entering their field of view, meaning that hiding behind things is a brilliant way to avoid them, but if you want to maximise your stealth skills, you can even hide inside specific furniture, as there are benches you can hide under and cabinets you can enter, providing you with a makeshift hiding place, but don’t get too confident, as these hiding spaces can be discovered by these enemies if you aren’t careful.
If you are looking to hide within these hiding spots, you will have a very good chance of sneaking away from the ever-present enemies that are searching for you, but there is a chance they can find you, and this is through a small minigame where you have to keep your joystick within the centre of an area; otherwise, you will give away your position, and the enemy will find you.

Although this minigame is quite easy, there is a chance you will give your position away, and if you do, the enemy will grab you, and you will enter a gripped phase from the enemy, where you will either have to mash a button to break yourself free, which if you do, you will gradually lose health during this, or you can use an improvised weapon to instantly break free and even stagger the enemy from chasing after you.
Once you break free, running away is simply your best bet, as you are faster than the enemies, so you can avoid them and even kite them around the different obstacles in the building to provide you with an opportunity to fully escape and hide, resetting the chase and providing you with some breathing room.
In terms of a new mechanic, players are able to tap into a mystical force that allows you to see the history of an object, which provides you new details and information to help you progress in the game. This mechanic is pretty simple, but it arrives to the player quite far into the game even though we were allowed to skip towards gaining it, but once you gain this ability, dozens of new opportunities will begin to appear across the mansion you can now rediscover.
Sadly I didn’t see too much regarding the game’s story, but from what I saw, it continues the same pattern as the others had in terms of atmosphere and horrifying situations, and I am here for it.
At the time of writing, Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy is set to release on October 27th, 2026, and will be releasing on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the Nintendo Switch 2.
