A big part of The Blood of Dawnwalker is that you aren’t just simply a human running around fighting monsters but you also have the monster inside of you meaning that your character will slowly learn to do things that will often be considered taboo one of which being communing with the dead which isn’t connected to being a vampire strangely enough but instead relies on magic.
Talking With the Dead Looks as Disturbing as it Sounds
In the early stages of The Blood of Dawnwalker, you will eventually learn the ability to commune with the dead through the skill ‘compel soul’ that Anca teaches you in order to find clues as to where your family has gone.
Although the game does provide you a small tutorial of how to do this, we don’t really see the whole gameplay mechanics in action and what situations you can use it in story wise.
Durinf this tutorial it is explained that after using the sorcery spell compel soul you will be able to commune with the dead in order to discover information from before they died but nothing too far in the past, unfortunately this information isn’t given willingly as you do have to jump through some hoops to get the person in question to tell you what you want to know.
In order to do this, you will have to find one of two objects within the local vicinity either something that meant a lot to that person or something that contributed to their death.

For obvious reasons this can be quite a challenge as you do not know a lot about the character you are trying to talk to except what you can see from their person and the small piece of information they provide when you first begin the spell.
The best way to solve this problem is by using your senses skill to search around the area for something highlighted in red, as this indicates it is important, and look for a crowd of butterflies on an item, as this indicates something important; however, you will have to do a bit of sleuthing to find out what these items represent to the deceased person, as it could be the item that killed them or something that was personal to them.
Once you find this item, you can then return to the dead body and ask it the question you need an answer to after providing it with the item in question, and you will finally be granted further information as to what has happened, why it happened, or even where you might need to go afterwards.
