When it comes to fighting within The Blood of Dawnwalker, there are two versions of combat that you can use in order to defeat your enemies, and both are very good in enabling you to defeat your enemies swiftly, but one specifically can be challenging to master, and that is blocking.
Blocking Brings a Whole New Level of Complications to Combat in The Blood of Dawnwalker
While you are playing through The Blood of Dawnwalker, you will be presented with two different versions of defending yourself within combat, one being the ability to dodge attacks, which can be very effective, and the other being blocking.
Although dodging can be quite helpful in a lot of scenarios and is even necessary against unblockable attacks, there are scenarios in which blocking can be a lot more effective, but sadly there is a deep learning curve to this mechanic.
The best way to describe this combat system is that you have 4 directions in which the enemy will attack you: either from the top, the bottom, the left, or the right. Depending on what directions these attacks come from determines what reaction you will have.
For example, if the attack is coming from the top, what you need to do is move your left stick upwards as you press the block button, which for PlayStation is L1. After doing this you will be able to block the attack coming towards you, but this can be made stronger.
If you wait until the marker flashes, you can perform a perfect parry, which will slightly stagger the enemy and potentially interrupt their combo, ensuring your survival, but it doesn’t end there.
After you progress far enough in the game and acquire the book for it, there is a skill you can acquire known as “perfect riposte,” which, when you perfect a parry, allows you to attack your opponent in a random direction that is determined by the game to do a stronger attack that deals further damage.
Once you combine this ability with your perfect parries, taking down enemies will be as easy as pie, especially once you begin to get stronger builds and even incorporate it into both the day and night cycle and the various status effects you can inflict. Along with this, if you are able to find the books to research it, you can further upgrade this ability at the cost of numerous cycles and time segments so that it can even work with dodging.
