As part of The Last of Us Day 2026, Neil Druckmann rounded out the celebration with one hell of a shocking announcement.
In a blog post over on Naughtydog.com, Druckmann answered a few questions that had been pressing for a long time. The first, and perhaps biggest of all of them, was the uncertainty surrounding more The Last of Us titles in the future.

Since Grounded II, we’ve talked about the possibility of telling more stories in the world of The Last of Us.
We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can’t say much about them at this point. I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II.
The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling.
While everyone expected some sort of news regarding the IP, especially with the third season in full swing production wise, I don’t think anyone was expecting confirmation of not one, but two titles to be in development.
Details on what these involve are non-existent at the moment, and with the studio deep into the development of its next IP Intergalatic: The Heretic Prophet, we may be waiting a while to find out more, but for this fan, just knowing we’re definitely getting more is enough.
Considering the outcry to the cancellation of The Last of Us Online in 2023, and the recent cease and desist sent to a fan-made version of Online, it’s a fair bet to assume they won’t be dipping any toes into the Online multiplayer side of things, not unless they really want to stoke the proverbial fire of fans anger.
It could also be that these two new projects aren’t video games at all, but other in another medium completely. Another spin-off TV show, books, comics, table top games? It could be anything at this stage.
Druckmann followed that news with an update on Intergalatic, as well:
There’s an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together, and we’re stoked to finally unveil Intergalactic in all its glory.
But…we need to cook for just a little bit longer.
So we want to set expectations: we’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year. In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.
It seems the future is bright for Naughty Dog fans, and as The Last of Us Day’s go, this might be the best yet!
