During the recent beta, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn drew some criticism from players, with many not happy with the look or sound of the default male captain. Owlcat Games announced they’d taken it on board, and now, a short time later, they’ve revealed the changes they’ve made.

New Captain for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

In a press release, Owlcat Games said:

“While the main character in The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is fully customizable, it is still important to have a default look players can use as a basis for their own captain. The developers have redesigned the male captain’s model to give him a less standard military personnel design with more detail and polish for players to work with. His handsome appearance is also matched by his new voice, brought to life by voice actor Blythe Melin, who previously worked on titles like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, Diablo IV, Ready or Not, and more. Blythe doesn’t just take over as the captain, he also voices his more carefree and relaxed identical twin J.“

With Blythe Melin, at this point a video game icon in his own right, taking over the reigns of the male captain, there’s now more gravitas involved in the character. Whether this change will please those that criticized in the first place is yet to be see, but now more than ever, in such a tumultuous time for the industry, it’s interesting to see some studios going to such lengths to please their fans ahead of time.
