Kratos’ Next God-Killing Weapon Has Been Seemingly Revealed Before the Next Mainline God of War Announcement

Kratos is one of the most recognizable PlayStation characters, and in gaming in general. As the son of Zeus and likely the sole survivor of the Greek pantheon, the Ghost of Sparta found a second chance for becoming a god of hope and took the lessons he learned from his son and new friends to heart. While Santa Monica Studios gave him the closure he needed, this doesn’t mean his journey is over.

The Norse Saga may be short-lived, but this is for the greater good and an opportunity to see the reformed God of War in a new setting with different characters, and potentially, a new pantheon. The developers may have plans to continue his growth beyond the Nine Realms and offer his services to people in need, and brandish a new weapon for a different cause.

In his glory days during the Greek Saga, players were familiar with the Blades of Chaos and killed everything that stood in the way of the Ghost of Sparta. One god fell after another, and the bloodshed didn’t bother Kratos in his youth. After laying waste to the Greek pantheon, fans were shocked to see him move to Scandinavia and get caught in the middle of the Norse gods’ conflict.

Years after settling in solitude on Midgard, Kratos received the Leviathan Axe from his second wife, Faye, as a gift, and it made sense from a gameplay perspective. With a Viking setting, this appealed to fans, and it quickly became a fan favorite. If rumors are to be believed, the God of War is far from done and is said to be heading to Egypt, and will be wielding a curved Egyptian blade for this new adventure.

Kratos is an expert fighter and a Spartan, which means anything in his hands is a deadly weapon. He has slain gods with the Blades of Chaos, killed Draugr and Aesir with the Leviathan Axe, and saved the Nine Realms with his Draupnir Spear. Each weapon has a specific element and powerset, which is exciting for developers to design their new combat system for the rumored Egypt project.

It is no secret that Santa Monica Studio had plans to feature Egyptian mythology in a mainline entry. Early plans for the 2018 entry even delved into Egyptian territory with a brief trailer of Kratos running outside a cave to reveal a large pyramid. Perhaps the developers have already outlined the future of the franchise and didn’t want to waste any time in the Nine Realms after Ragnarok.

Death, revenge, and chaos are all present in the Greek Saga; however, the Norse Saga showed that there is always room to grow. Kratos went from a vengeful god-killer to the hero of Ragnarok, and Týr gave him the support he needed to believe in himself. Combat is all these gods know, but now, Kratos is using his godly abilities in the service of others.

Týr was a respected god and more of a traveller, which was confirmed during the Valhalla DLC, as he used different weapons from different cultures and mythology. Perhaps he will accompany the reformed God of War in his next adventure to save the people of Egypt from a looming threat.
