Per Caged Element:
Caged Element, creators of Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks, has revealed their latest project: GRIP XR, a follow-up to their first game, the cult hit GRIP: Combat Racing. GRIP XR’s Kickstarter is now live and its demo available on Steam.
A blazingly fast, physics-defying and action-packed racer, GRIP XR retains the best of the original GRIP, while taking its signature gameplay by pushing a retro-inspired aesthetic. Led by the studio’s co-founders Chris Mallinson and Robert Baker – an original developer on the legendary Rollcage series – GRIP XR is the accumulation of a decade of racing game experience driven by community feedback.
GRIP XR takes the lessons learned from Speed Freeks and the high-octane action that original GRIP fans know and love, refining the gameplay for a smooth, outrageously fast, edge-of-control racing experience. The game prioritizes a high-speed flow state while providing the challenge and nostalgia found in ’90s combat racers.
The “Crank” feature lets players instantly roll their car to scale vertical walls, pull off stunts, and dodge projectiles, adding a rich layer of tactical depth that gives skilled racers a winning edge. Packed with community-inspired upgrades, GRIP XR also features smoother driving, improved level design, and vibrant, punchy audiovisuals. Carrying on the legacy of Rollcage and GRIP, the game pairs its rocket-powered racing with a certified-banger soundtrack by Cave Bat.
Finally, GRIP XR’s biggest addition is a powerful Steam level editor and integrated workshop. It allows players to create, share, and rate custom races, stunts, and challenges, all while delivering endless community-driven replayability.
Players keen to learn more about GRIP XR can follow the Kickstarter to help shape the future of its development, wishlist and download the Steam demo or join the Discord.
