Atomfall Story Expansion Wicked Isle Release Date and Trailer Revealed

Atomfall was only released in March of this year, so you’d be forgiven for expecting the two promised expansions to be a little way off. However, today, Rebellion confirmed the release date of Wicked Isle, the first of the two, and it’s not far off whatsoever. In fact, it’s less than a week away!

Drawing on the folk horror elements of the game for inspiration, the story expansion is set on Midsummer Island. To cross to the island, players must talk to the boat-keeper who can be found on the jetty in Wyndham Village. He will give you information about the island as well as your first Lead, and then the story of Wicked Isle will begin!

Per a Rebellion press release, Ben Fisher, Head of Design, said:

“Midsummer is located close to the Windscale Atom Plant, and as a result, the levels of infection in both the people and environment are higher than on the mainland. You are going to meet new enemy factions, including pirate bandits and infected druids. To help you survive, there are new weapons to be found on the island, including a devastating Blunderbuss shotgun, a new bow, cutlass, daggers, and the Beekeeper’s Staff. You will also be able to acquire new skills which will aid you on your quest, as well as an upgraded metal detector which will enable you to find even more loot caches.”

The fact that this first expansion will provide not only more context to the main story of Atomfall, but perhaps entirely new endings is a great piece of news, as it’ll provide more replayability to the game, one which already has a huge variety of approaches to it.

During our review, Liam Magee said:

“… the fact that Atomfall is also an open world allows for even more freedom as there is the choice to do what you want, when you want, whether it be save the world, destroy the world, save everyone, or kill everyone; there is no limit to what you can do and no moral compass besides your own.”

This should give you some idea of the scope of the main game, and hopefully, Wicked Isle provides a similar experience.

Included in the Deluxe Edition and in the Deluxe Upgrade Pack and available to purchase separately when released (£14.99, €19.99, $19.99), Wicked Isle will be available from June 3rd on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Windows PC and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Game Pass subscribers will benefit from a 10% discount.
