The Last of Us Season 2 has officially ended and scarred the general audience for the emotional story beats. This season only adapted the first half of the original game, and many of the hardcore fans thought it could have been better. While some fans were unsatisfied with this season, it did one thing right by giving the original game a boost in sales.
This is one of the best parts about multiple adaptations of a beloved franchise. Fans of a certain version will be interested to try something new, but familiar. This goes to show how much influence this franchise has accumulated over the years, and both adaptations giving each other a leg up.
The Last of Us Season 2 Gave the Original Game a Boost in Sales
The beauty of having a live-action adaptation of an already popular project is that it encourages people to get out of their comfort zone. This worked wonders for Sony Interactive Entertainment since the sales of The Last of Us Part 2 skyrocketed due to the HBO adaptation’s popularity. This was an inevitability, especially with the show adapting a controversial story that shook the gaming community years ago.

While The Last of Us originally started as a video game, the folks at HBO were confident to bring this story to life in a new medium for a different audience. The story beats are roughly the same; however, there were some creative changes and deviations from the source material. Perhaps casual viewers are interested in seeing how the story actually unfolds in the original version.
The HBO adaptation primarily focused on the drama aspect of the source material, which did not sit well for fans expecting to see a rampaging Ellie mow down countless Wolves and Scars to find Abby. The video game version is drastically different from the TV show and it comes down to preference. perhaps the HBO team is limited by what they can show and could not satisfy the itch audience members needed scratching.
The Last of Us Part 2 Is Still the Definitive Way To Experience This Story

Another good reason as to why sales of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered are doing well is that fans aren’t too happy with the cliffhanger ending. There is no guarantee when HBO will release Season 3, even if it was greenlit, and some fans want to see where the story will be heading next.
The Last of Us Season 3 is all but confirmed to be covering the second half of the game, featuring Abby’s three-day Seattle campaign. Experiencing the original version will save fans time from guessing how the story will end and will prepare them for the emotional trauma of the third season.
