In the wake of Herman Hulst stepping down from his role as CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, a position he shared with the current CEO Hideaki Nishino, a new move from the company has fans of Bloodborne speculating about a potential remaster of the title.
Considering the bittersweet year that Sony had in 2024 with Astro Bot being a massive hit among PlayStation players even as Concord’s disastrous launch forced Sony to shut down Firewalk Studios, this new development has many wondering if one of modern gaming’s biggest presences is revisiting its glory days in an attempt to stay ahead of the competition.
Could Sony Be Pondering a Trip Back to Yharnam?

A recent update from modder Lance McDonald regarding the 60fps patch that he created nearly four years ago for Bloodborne has many fans of FromSoftware’s fast-paced action title hopeful that a remaster is finally on the cards.
A legal notice from Sony demanding the removal of links to his work is the latest catalyst for speculations about a remaster that has long been on the wishlists of players who simply cannot get enough of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s take on Lovecraftian horror which featured frenetic combat and a plethora of weapons and bosses that allow Bloodborne to be considered among his best projects.
These assumptions do make sense considering that Sony does own the rights to Bloodborne and could very well benefit from giving PlayStation fans a chance to revisit the game’s terrifying premise and take on its bosses once again.
Bloodborne Makes a Nightmare Become a Dream

With a remake of Demon Souls being very successful for Sony when it launched the PlayStation 5 and the recent success of its remaster of Horizon Zero Dawn, Sony looking to block McDonald’s own version of a remastered Bloodborne does indeed point to the company looking to bring back one of PlayStation’s most iconic exclusives.
It helps that the Hunter makes an appearance in several other PlayStation IPs like Astro Bot with many Bloodborne fans continuing to hold out hope that they will eventually get to return to the nightmarish streets of Yharnam if Sony signs off on an official remake of the game.
Taking to X to add a few theories of his own, McDonald seems to believe that a remaster of Bloodborne could be on the cards as well.
My copium theory is that Sony DMCAed the 60fps patch and the video about the Bloodborne demake so that when they announce a 60fps remake, google searching for “bloodborne 60fps” and “Bloodborne remake” won’t have collisions with our fan projects.

Let me cope.
With Sony seemingly gearing up for a State of Play event later in the month, Bloodborne fans are sure to wait with bated breath for an update on whether they get to revisit a new and improved version of Yharnam and dive back into its mysteries.
