Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been on the horizon for an age, with many of us wondering how it was going to bring the franchise back up from the recent lows its experienced. With a chaotic campaign, multiplayer innovation and a reworked DMZ, I think we can put our minds at rest. Getting good at the various modes is hard work though, right?
The new and upgraded DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has a vast list of additions to make it more dynamic, fun, and especially an enjoyable team experience. In this beginner’s guide, you’ll find all the little details you need to know to try this great game mode and understand every basic aspect of it, and quickly become the one dominating every match, rather than being dominated.
What Is the DMZ Mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4?

First and foremost, what is the DMZ mode? This acronym stands for Demilitarized Zone. In a few words, this is an extraction mode that is a little smaller than Warzone but more active. It has enemies everywhere, and there is always something happening in every corner of the map.
As for this particular version, you can easily see all the hard work of the many studios under the wing of Activision. The mode has grown and become something alive and constantly evolving. As a player, you’ll always have something to unlock and seek in every mission.
How Does It Work?
This mode has its own ecosystem, meaning it has its own progression system based on playing different missions, completing objectives, and collecting loot. You’ll begin at your FOB (Forward Operating Base), where you can prepare your loadout, print new gear, upgrade your weapons, and take care of every other detail before deploying into the DMZ.
Once you choose your loadout, you can deploy to Hajin City in different modes. There are story missions where you can unlock rewards, fulfil objectives, and advance through the season. Another variation is Dynamic Mode, where the mission objectives are randomized, giving you more freedom to explore the map and find the best loot.

The map has different threat levels, ranging from low to critical, with the latter being the most extreme. There are also lieutenants, special characters with more health and better weapons. These lieutenants are not easy to defeat, but you can check out our tips and tricks to discover the best approach.
The map is filled with random events, such as hijackings, incoming vehicles, radar events, and more. There is always something to do in DMZ. There are also fortresses where the largest number of enemies are waiting for you. The higher the threat, the higher the reward.
Keep It Tight and Don’t Be Greedy
As obvious as it may sound, this mode was created to be played as a team. You can try to go alone, but it is not easy at all to complete a mission and make it out alive. There are many ways to start a deployment, but the best approach is to start with a medium backpack, a 2-plate vest, and at least a bandage or a medkit if you have one.
This will help guarantee that you can survive going down at least twice. It will also help your teammates focus on surviving instead of having to rescue you. Most importantly, if you complete your main objective, exfil with your team and secure the loot you have collected. Being greedy will not end well. Even with a modest amount of loot, you can accumulate enough resources to upgrade your weapons and gear.
If you follow these basic tenets, you’ll realise DMZ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 isn’t as hard as you’ve been making it.
