It was no secret that Dying Light 2: Stay Human lost some of the mojo that the original had. It was fun, and still managed to allow us to live out our parkour fantasies, but the terror of the original was lost along the way.
The day/night cycle, a mechanic that gave the franchise its biggest push, lost some of the urgency and horror elements, and all too quickly, players were able to turn themselves into a superhuman zombie killer with little to worry about or avoid. Dying Light: The Beast looks to have flipped the switch on that, and as the third dev diary proves, we might be Kyle Crane again (this time with some beastly powers), but we’re still very much at the bottom of the proverbial food chain at night.
Looks utterly terrifying, right? The panic of encountering the Volatiles at night has certainly returned, and with the dense forestry present in the video above, it’ll be all too easy to get lost and turned around, heading right back towards one that’ll take great pleasure in chowing down on our unfortunate faces.
The early parts of the dev diary also highlight the extra ‘superpowers’ that Kyle Crane possesses this time round, with him carving his way through a multitude of enemies, including some particularly brutal dismemberments and chest-bursting antics. It’ll be interesting to see how Dying Light: The Beast handles the fine line between overpowered and piss-your-pants horror we all want.
Dying Light: The Beast releases on September 19th, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
