Shocking no one, Epic Games recently announced that Fortnite OG would not only be returning to the game, but it’d be returning permanently. Introduced as a limited-time event a few months ago, it garnered rave reviews from players who missed the simpler, original launch of the game, and proved to be a smash hit for all concerned!
When Does Fortnite OG Come Out?
No official time has been released, but a countdown on the Fortnite Discover tab indicates Fortnite OG will launch at 6AM PT/9AM ET/2PM GMT. Not long to wait! With the new release also touting an update (as per for these things), it may be a bit later than those times before you can jump back in for some OG fun, but it’s not likely to be far behind.
What Does Fortnite OG Include?

Other than a simpler, more original version harkening back to the original launch in 2017, Fortnite OG will include some more modern and familiar features. Of course, it’s not Fortnite without a battle pass for one, which has a massive 45 tiers of rewards, including some modern spins on classic skins long since thought unobtainable, like Skull Commander for example.
Thankfully, you’ll be able to progress through the OG Battle Pass by earning XP in ANY game mode, meaning progress should be quick. Considering the shorter turnaround through seasons compared to other modes, this will be needed. Whilst Fortnite OG Chapter 1: Season 1 begins today, it’ll end January 31st, 2025 at 7AM.
Not everything is going back to the original launch though, as both building and movement mechanics will be the modern variety, and ranked play won’t be available on launch, unfortunately, but we’ll be dropping into solos, squads, and Zero build straight away!
Expect a more stripped-back weapon set, with the following confirmed already.
- Assault Rifle
- Burst Assault Rifle
- Scoped Assault Rifle
- Pump Shotgun
- Tactical Shotgun
- Pistol
- Revolver
- Submachine Gun
- Tactical Machine Gun
- Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle
- Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle
- Grenade Launcher
- Rocket Launcher
- Damage Trap
- Ceiling Zapper
- Wall Dynamo
