The God of War franchise expands like never before, and it finally answers one of the most frequently asked questions by fans: Who was Atreus´s mother? The answer is clearer than ever, and God of War Laufey will answer all the questions about Faye. This game takes place at the same time as God of War (2018). Santa Monica Studio will keep the same frenetic combat with a third-person camera.

Laufey, also known as Faye, will be quicker and, depending on the situation, deadlier than Kratos. God of War Laufey aims to fill the gap between the original God of War trilogy and the two more recent games.

Release Date and Platforms

God of War Laufey will be released on February 16. Sony and PlayStation have decided to move away from multiplatform releases, so the game will only be available on PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Santa Monica Studio has confirmed several editions with additional content. This title is already available for pre-order. It will only offer a single-player experience.

Story Mode

Faye, the mother of Atreus and partner of Kratos, will be the sole protagonist in this new iteration of the franchise. Faye, a.k.a. Laufey, will find herself in the afterlife of the gods, called Everywhen. Just after her death, the game will take place alongside the events of God of War (2018). The protagonist will wake up without knowing what is happening and will have to face different enemies.

She will be extremely worried about the fate of Atreus and Kratos, knowing that things are not going as she planned. This fearless warrior will confront different gods from all kinds of mythologies. She will also find relics that will help her face these gods, who want to control this strange realm.

There is also a new kind of magic all over the place that can be harvested for the wrong purposes, and some deities are conspiring to take over Everywhen. Faye will be much faster than Kratos or Atreus, showing off her own combat style that will change the franchise forever.

God of War Laufey will not have multiplayer or co-op modes.

Trailers

The first trailer introducing God of War Laufey was a direct, full-length gameplay showcase featuring Faye in action. It was released four months ago, when the game was first announced.

The trailer showcased the gameplay and how fast Faye is compared to Kratos. She will be a completely different kind of warrior. The trailer also confirmed the release date.

Around the same time the gameplay was revealed, PlayStation also showed another trailer introducing Faye as a character, the love interest of Kratos and the mother of Atreus. She is also a giant descendant, which is why the game is named after her in honor of the great warrior she is.

Another trailer was released when the game was showcased, showing the complete cast of God of War Laufey, which includes Deborah Ann-Woll and Jack Quaid.

One of the latest trailers focuses on pre-orders and the different versions of the game, including the amazing Collector´s Edition, which includes a statue of Faye, artwork from the game, and more.
