One Easter Egg in The Last of Us Part I Sets Up One of the Best Sequences in the Sequel

The Last of Us Part I gave the original game the treatment it deserved by being remade from the ground up for PlayStation 5 and PC players. It took everything that was praised from the controversial sequel and paired it with the story that sent shivers down the gaming community a decade ago. It is a much more detailed version than the original PlayStation 3 version and PlayStation 4 remaster.

As a remake, both new and returning players can see much more detailed environments. Despite being released a few years ago, some fans discovered new easter eggs and references that make the world feel more connected and alive. Perhaps this could explain the fruition of one of the best sections in the sequel through creative world-building.

Remakes may seem like an easy cash grab nowadays; however, the developers at Naughty Dog seized the opportunity to make a deeper connection between the two games. Set in a fictional post-apocalyptic world, the survivors used their own devices to survive the attacks of infected and non-infected threats. Tommy Miller was a Firefly before he became one of Jackson’s leaders, which meant his hands are far from clean.

One player found a new easter egg that would make his shooting sequence during Abby’s Seattle Day 3 in The Last of Us Part 2 much more grounded and personal. It is also a good tidbit that showcases Tommy’s skill as a sniper by gathering information about his location before setting up a post.

During the Tommy’s Dam section in the remake, you can fully explore a much more detailed environment than previous versions. In one of the offices, you can spot a tag that belonged to the Seattle Waterfront Aquarium. Fans of The Last of Us could easily put the pieces together, and this was the same aquarium that Owen and Abby discovered during their early days in the Washington Liberation Front.

Perhaps this was how Tommy was able to position himself in Seattle on Day 3 during his hunt for Abby. Despite what the gaming community feels about the sequel, Naughty Dog did an impressive job with the sniping sequence, and this small easter egg could ground Tommy’s character even more and his skill as a sniper.

Naughty Dog Is Still an Expert at Setting Up Future Encounters Through Tiny Easter Eggs

Most fans will recognize the aquarium tag when Abby and Yara searched the place for a gift to cheer up an upset Lev. It is a quick bling-and-you-will-miss-it easter egg, but it sets up Tommy’s arc perfectly in the sequel. In line with setting up future encounters through easter eggs, the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us on HBO bridged the gap between an ambushed FEDRA van with Isaac’s betrayal and rise to WLF leadership.

Small details like these can be easily missed by players and viewers, but it is interesting to see how it all adds up. Perhaps in Season 3, we could see the sniping sequence, and the showrunners will stick to the script by remaking one iconic moment from The Last of Us Part 2.
