The First Berserker: Khazan – How to Beat Viper

Playing The First Berserker: Khazan? Are you finding it difficult to beat the next boss, find the best items, or nail down the best builds for Khazan, the exiled General and protagonist of the game? Well, whether it’s that or something else entirely, we’ll help you become the best version of yourself in The First Berserker: Khazan, and demolish every enemy and boss in your path. In this guide, we’ll explain how you can beat Viper, the third boss in the game, and a boss that’ll be a real test if you’re not prepared.

How to Defeat Viper in The First Berserker: Khazan

The Viper boss battle comes at the end of The First Berserker: Khazan‘s third level, Forgotten Temple. Another multiple-phase boss, you’ll be thinking it’s an easy street after the introduction of the Spirit of Advocacy allies, but if anything else, it seems to make life more difficult for you.

Suggested Level: 18
Suggested Weapons: Dual Blades
Must-Have Skills: Ruthless, Reflection

Forgotten Temple is mostly a cakewalk, hence the suggested level of eighteen, but the difficulty spikes once you get to the Viper boss battle, and no matter the difficulty level you’re playing on, you will struggle at first. Before starting the fight make sure you have four Netherworld Energy, to allow for maximum health replenishment, an ally to assist or distract, and your best items equipped.

Phase One

Viper is a high-ranking dragonkin (hence the look) loyal to Hismar, the Dragonlord Khazan has slain before the game began. He packs quite the punch, but there are some strategies to make the whole fight much easier.

Viper’s main attacks during Phase One are:

  • A long combo of five hits can induce massive damage. Successfully managing a Perfect Guard at the last of the five hits will cause Viper to enter a staggered state, where you can unload on him.
  • A thrusting spear attack. This will result in you being locked on the end of the spear. As soon as you see the spear pull back and a glistening light, dodge to the left or right.
  • He’ll create a tornado around him, dragging you and your ally into it, causing massive damage. Avoid and move backward.

If you have the Javelin skill, you can aim for his horns, as this will reveal a weak point once broken off. If not, you should pick your moments incredibly well. Your ally will draw a lot of Viper’s attention, and it’s at these moments you definitely need to strike. Whether it’s a potent attack or using your Ruthless skill, you’ll want to maximize damage here.

Quickly though, your ally will fall, and Viper’s attacks and attention will be fully on you. By this time you’ll hopefully have him down to half health, if not lower. It’s also at this point you’ll want to be wary of the spear attack mentioned above.

Phase Two

If you’ve managed to defeat Viper’s first phase of the boss battle, you may be feeling pretty proud, but the second phase is far harder and more difficult than the first phase and by some distance.

During the second phase, the arena will become shrouded in darkness, and Viper will transform into a larger, more grotesque form of himself, and his attacks, damage, and tenacity will all change.

Viper’s main attacks during Phase Two are:

  • Another sweeping five combo, where he’ll use his huge claw-like arm to slam into the ground at the end.
  • A lightning attack that sees him attacking through the darkness. Block each attack and you’ll survive.
  • An AOE slam from the air. Time this dodge well.

As with phase one, remove the horn to reveal a weak spot to cause maximum damage. The Ruthless Skill is your best friend here. When Viper finishes his five-hit combo, he’ll slam it into the ground, and assuming he didn’t connect, he’ll stay there a moment. Dodge around use the Ruthless skill, and watch his health drop quickly. If you don’t have any spirit remaining, you can use a Spirit Orb to restore some, if you have one, or you can attack with potent attacks, to lower Viper’s stamina quickly.

The key to this phase of Viper’s boss battle is to be patient. You can back off, you can guard, you can take your time. If you miss a guard, attack one too many times, or get distracted, Viper will punish you heavily, and quickly. You’ll die, and have to redo the whole experience again, both phases.

If you’ve followed the above tips and tricks, you’ll have hopefully beaten the Blade Phantom in The First Berserker: Khazan, and next up, you’ll have the fourth level’s boss Volbaino.
