WWE 2K25 The Island Will Be Unavailable to a Massive Portion of Playerbase

WWE 2K25 has had a strange old time of it, and it’s not even out yet. From fans being unsure as to when or if we were even getting another release, to an out-of-the-blue announcement on the first episode of the new era on Netflix, it’s been hard to be a fan of WWE games recently. That’s slowly coming to an end now, and with a release date in sight, we’re counting down the days until we get our hands on the game.

WWE 2K25 Brings an NBA 2K Staple… For Some

If you’ve played any of the recent NBA 2K games, you’ll have seen its version of a feature that is finally making its way to the WWE 2K franchise. Named ‘The City’ in the NBA 2K franchise, you’re afforded the opportunity to walk around, interact, find, and play in a relatively open sandbox that most sports games wouldn’t even think to include.

Now, in a blockbuster reveal, after many months of being rumored, it seems the feature is coming to our favorite wrestling franchise WWE 2K25. Albeit with a different name ‘The Island’, truth be told, it looks like it’ll function in the same way. In what could be a wrestling game first, WWE 2K25 will go open world, but what unique takes the game will have is unknown, at least for now. Fingers crossed you can just run and attack other wrestlers as and when you want!

However, it seems like it isn’t all good news, at least for a chunk of the player base. At the end of the reveal trailer explaining The Island, eagle-eyed fans noticed a surprising message:

“The island is only available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.”

This means anyone looking to play ‘The Island’ best already own a next-gen (or after five years, arguably current-gen) console, as it looks like even PC players are copping the short end of the stick. It’s understandable why such an intensive and high-end feature may be kept from those with last-gen consoles, and it’s actually nice to see a developer not allowing old platforms to hold their products back, but not including PC as a playable platform is undoubtedly an odd choice, of which some players had a lot to say:

Other players saw the value in the new addition, with DR_SQUIDZ saying “Won’t be for everyone, but I’m hoping it’s a fun way to socialize in the game”.

Maybe we’ll get more clarification as we get closer to the release of WWE 2K25, but for now, if you’re on last-gen or PC, it looks like you’ll be missing out.

WWE 2K25 will release on March 14th, 2025 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. It’ll feature the largest roster of any WWE 2K game ever, with over 300+ playable characters including current superstars, Hall of Famers, Legends, and more!
