GTA 6 is expected to be released later this year for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S; however, the gaming community is growing more impatient with the lack of information shared by the developers. While the world waits for an update, a veteran voice actor shared how he would like to give his iconic character a bloody and well-earned retirement.
GTA 6 Fans Don’t Need a Reminder of the Decade-Long Development Phase
Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto games don’t necessarily rely on previous games to get players up to speed for the new story; however, some fans are holding out hope to see some protagonists get referenced or even a brief second cameo. While the odds of older characters like Franklin, Michael, and Trevor appearing in GTA 6 are low, Steven Ogg wouldn’t mind showing up to give himself a bloody farewell.

While talking about his character’s legacy with Screen Rant, Ogg revealed he would like to see Trevor return briefly but go out in a similar manner to how Johnny Klebitz was killed in GTA 5. Ogg sees it as if it were a rite of passage or a formal way to transition fans that their time has ended:
“I wish it would be fun if Trevor appeared in it just to be killed at the beginning,“
This is a similar strategy that Neil Druckmann applied in The Last of Us Part 2 where Joel Miller was unceremoniously killed and served as a catalyst to the whole story, Ogg’s idea is to simply put his character out to pasture to pave the way for newcomers like Jason and Lucia to become the new faces of the franchise:
I think that would be cool, because it also acknowledges the fans of like, ‘Hey, thank you.’ Pass the torch, stomp Trevor’s head in, and sort of put an end to that and allow a new generation to take over.
This sounds like an amusing idea, but it does open the developers another can of worms. While GTA 5 is universally praised for all the right reasons, it wouldn’t be a good idea to bring back a legacy character into a game that took years to develop. The last thing fans want is to be reminded of how long they waited for the highly anticipated sequel and to kill Trevor Philips on screen will likely receive a mixed reaction, given his fan-favorite moniker.
GTA 6 shouldn’t rely on the past and there is nothing wrong with leaving legacy characters the way they are. It may have worked for GTA 5 after Johnny’s brains were crushed by Trevor’s boot, but it doesn’t mean it will resonate the same way with the current audience today.
