Marvel Rivals is the next big team shooter, spouting 6v6 team-based shooter dynamics, team-ups, hectic gameplay, and a beautiful art style. All that, and it’s based on the most popular IP of the last twenty years! With 33 playable characters free-to-play at launch, and many more set to join them over the coming months and years, it could get a little overwhelming to know where to start. To battle that, we’ve broken down each character, their strengths, weaknesses, lore, and more, including Marvel Rivals Thor!
Marvel Rivals Thor Overview and Lore
A long and storied history follows Thor since his creation, and along with that, some good moments, some great moments, and some downright terrible moments. The son of Odin Borsor and Frigga, Thor Odinson, the God of Thunder, is a 1,500-year-old God, seemingly immortal and possessing super strength, command over electricity, and a multitude of weapons, including the instantly recognizable Mjolnir, he’s no slouch or pushover.
Marvel Rivals Thor doesn’t change a winning formula, with this version still being a Princely God, still in battle with Loki as his father has entered the Odinsleep; however, this time Loki wins and has banished Thor to a new timeline. This one, ‘our one’, is threatened by multiple different Dooms and in danger thanks to the ‘Timestream Entanglement’.

Best Allies and Team-Ups for Thor

Team-ups are nothing new to superhero fans, and thankfully, Marvel Rivals is no different. Each of the characters has special abilities they can trigger to help (or be helped) in a variety of ways with others in the game. Marvel Rivals: Thor has two such instances:
- Odinson Reborn – If Hela (Thor’s sister) lands the final hit and defeats an enemy, she will instantly resurrect both Loki and Thor in the respawn phase. If they’re still alive, then instead they will get bonus health!
- Bonus Health – 50.
- Delay – 1.5s.
- Thunderous Deity – Just like that scene in Thor: Love and Thunder, Marvel Rivals Thor grants his power of the ThorForce to both Captain America and Storm. Both can then cause extra damage with lightning damage!
- Bonus – +100 Max Health.
Marvel Rivals Thor Tips & Tricks
Like other Vanguards, the best way to play with Marvel Rivals Thor is relatively simple, and some familiarity with the character as a whole will make your time far easier:
- Don’t stop. Be aggressive and constantly attack. You have a large pool of health and highly damage abilities. Defense is not your forte.
- Mix up the abilities you’re using and don’t be predictable.
- Ensure you’re using your team-up abilities, and you’re paired with those that benefit you; primarily Hela, Captain America, Loki, or even Jeff the Land Shark.
- Don’t sleep on the Awakening Runes; these can make or break your battles, including those Thor is weak to.
- Always be mindful of your ThorForce, and never forget that Mjolnir Bash will restore it one point at a time if you’re in dire need.
- Don’t save your ThorForce or your Awakened Runes. Over the course of a match, they will be plentiful.
Of course, mastering any one character can take time, and there will always be new tips and ways of doing things as the Meta changes!
How to Beat Marvel Rivals Thor (Weaknesses & Counters)
Marvel Rivals Thor isn’t special in the sense that most of his weaknesses are any different from those of other Vanguards, but there are a few ways to cause him problems, beyond just banishing him to another realm, Loki/Odin style.
- Pay attention to whether he has a healer with him/near him. If not, go to town. Overwhelming him is the best way forward.
- Keep your distance. Flying and ranged heroes are king here. If you get too close, try and avoid his ultimate, but distance enough and you’ll be able to pepper him until he retreats or dies.
- Kill Hela. She can revive/grant him additional health if she’s present, and is almost a cheat code for the God of Thunder.
Alternate Skins
NetEase may be releasing the game and the characters for free, but for the alternate skins and costumes, we’ll have to reach into our pockets for the best looks for our favorite heroes! With 33 (and counting) heroes to play as, and an entire multiverse of looks to put on screen, there’s going to be no shortage of choices to pick from! Below is the full list of Marvel Rivals Thor skins to pick!
Default

Winged helmet, metallic tones, and some heavy-duty metal gloves adorn this version of Thor, someone who undoubtedly took cues from his father in the facial hair department. Clean and well-designed, this will be a favorite for many.
Herald of Thunder

Released during the Beta as a special reward for anyone managing to hit the Battle Pass’s timely and unlikely objectives, the Herald of Thunder represents a simpler version of the Asgardian God.
Thor: Love and Thunder

Familiar to any MCU fan, the Thor: Love and Thunder skin may be more popular with gamers than it was when it was on the big screen during Taika Waititi’s much-maligned sequel. Teased with the mysterious quote:
“I need to figure out exactly who I am.”
Sounds familiar, MCU fans, am I right?
