Marvel Rivals Captain America Guide – Everything You Need to Dominate

Marvel Rivals is the next big team shooter, spouting 6v6 team-based shooter dynamics, team-ups, hectic gameplay, and a beautiful art style. All that, and it’s based on the most popular IP of the last twenty years! With 33 playable characters free-to-play at launch, and many more set to join them over the coming months and years, it could get a little overwhelming to know where to start. To battle that, we’ve broken down each character, their strengths, weaknesses, lore, and more, starting with Marvel Rivals Captain America!

Marvel Rivals Captain America Overview and Lore

Long considered a background B character more or less forgotten about in first-hand media like games and television, Captain America was a character only the die-hard comic lovers enjoyed, before Chris Evans took on the mantle and transformed the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Always a bastion of honor, strength, and doing the right thing, Captain America could be seen as a ‘boring’ character to some, but the Marvel Rivals Captain America is anything but!

Armed only with a shield just like his classic comic book counterpart, this version of Steve Rogers has been displaced by the Timestream Entanglement, a multiverse ending event akin to that of Secret Wars, even including multiple Doctor Doom’s!

Best Allies and Team-Ups for Captain America

Marvel Ultimate Alliance gave most of us our first taste of team-up attacks involving our favorite Marvel heroes, and Marvel Rivals is no different. Captain America team-ups with Thor, who supercharges him in a way Avengers: Endgame fans will be most excited for.

  • Charged Aegis – Thor grants his ‘Thorforce’ to Captain America, momentarily enchanting him (and more importantly his shield) with electricity. An additional movement boost also makes Cap a truly formidable foe during this team-up move.
    • Shield speed – 100m/s.
    • Max shield distance – 25m.
    • Damage – 50.
    • Ricochets – 1 max.
    • Duration – 6s.
    • Movement boost – +1m/s.

As Marvel Rivals drops new characters throughout the coming months, there will undoubtedly be new team-up combinations available for all our heroes, so check back to see if there are any new ones!

Marvel Rivals Captain America Tips & Tricks

As with other iterations of the character, Marvel Rivals Captain America requires some basic understanding of the character to fully utilize the man at hand.

  • Be aggressive. Don’t sit still. This is a tip for almost all characters, but especially true for Vanguards, and in this case Captain America.
  • Make use of Fearless Leap and the Super-Soldier Slam regularly. They’re two of your greatest weapons.
  • Don’t be afraid to use the increased movement and speed to evade (run away), if it means surviving long enough to be healed. That’s better than dying and wasting precious lives.
  • Get used to seeking out a Thor on your team, as Charged Aegis can turn the tide of a battle in an instant. Incredible duo/team-up.
  • Use cover if necessary, but focus on understanding when and how to use Captain America’s shield. It’s portable cover!

You may find you’re just not gelling with Captain America’s playstyle, and that could mean one of two things; you either need to swap out and main another character, or practice a little more!

How to Beat Marvel Rivals Captain America (Weaknesses & Counters)

If you’re here because you’re encountering Captain America and regularly getting pummelled no matter your strategy or character you’re playing as then you’ll be glad to know we have some tried-and-tested methods of making him no better than his pre-serum self!

  1. If you main, or someone on your team mains, a flying character, you’ll have a far easier time dealing with the leader of the Avengers. Without a ranged weapon, Captain America is unable to do much to those flying around him, beyond throwing his shield (stay out of range).
  2. Due to his huge amount of health, the last thing you want is to get him near death and then see a Strategist healing him. Remove them from the equation and you won’t have to worry about that either.
  3. Similarly to the above, don’t allow Thor to use Charged Aegis for Cap, and remove his strongest and most offensive weapon.
  4. Using Doctor Strange, create a portal that opens up over a drop/cliff. A surprising amount of players just run through without wondering where it goes.
  5. Avoid gun-based characters like Winter Soldier or The Punisher. Captain America will turn these into Swiss cheese with the simple use of his shield.

There will be regular updates that change the ‘meta’ of Marvel Rivals, so if the above doesn’t work in your attempts to beat Captain America, check back soon and see some updated methods!

Alternate Skins

NetEase may be releasing the game and the characters for free, but for the alternate skins and costumes, we’ll have to reach into our pockets for the best looks for our favorite heroes! With 33 (and counting) heroes to play as, and an entire multiverse of looks to put on screen, there’s going to be no shortage of choice to pick from! Below is the full list of Marvel Rivals Captain America skins to pick!

Default

Default Captain America is something of a tank. Looks like Rob Liefeld drw his chest too. Image Credit: NetEase.

The default skin is from NetEase’s own universe. As mentioned already, the lore of this version doesn’t differ much from what we know. Fighting in WW2, frozen and unthawed (albeit in 2080), the main difference is that this Cap looks more futuristic thanks to this unthawing time, but don’t be fooled, he packs the same punch as the more restrained versions we know and love.

Captain Gladiator

Announced prior to release by NetEase with a particularly intriguing bio:

On the outskirts of Doomstadt lies the Killiseum, where the most dangerous warriors clash for the glory of God Doom. Here, the devil and the captain reign as the champions. The time for gladiatorial combat is now!

Comic readers will recognize the clear Secret Wars/Planet Hulk influences, where Captain America (and many others) end up fighting in gladiatorial colosseums for the amusement of others. Considering the overarching storyline involving Doom, it’s a fitting start for the character.
