If you like your social deduction games like Among Us, then you’ll be glad by the latest horror news. Mimic, the first release for gaming industry veteran Ryan Laley, has dropped into Early Access today, ahead of the horror-filled holiday of Halloween.

After a terrible time at Gamescom 2026, with his exhibition equipment being stolen and his ability to showcase the game being severely hindered, it means the year is hopefully going to be coming to a good end, with the release of the game after so many years of development.

Laley also dropped the Mimic Early Access roadmap, which is full of upcoming additions to the game, including new maps, gameplay modifiers, and perhaps most surprisingly, a single-player mode. How that’ll work in a game designed to be a group event is unknown, but intriguing.

Mimic Key Features:

  • True Multiplayer Survival Horror: Every player is vulnerable. With no weapons to rely on, survival depends on teamwork, quick thinking, and knowing when not to trust those around you. Complete objectives to repair the escape shuttle and get the hell off of the Icarus!

  • Accuse to Survive: At any time, you can cast your vote to send commands to the AI android roaming the halls to target a specific player. Don’t trust someone? Send the android to do your dirty work.

  • Social Deduction with Purpose: Lurking among your ranks is a corporate agent and the mimic. Every encounter raises the tension and makes you question who you can trust. Use in-game proximity chat to coordinate… or lie. Suspicion isn’t a party game mechanic; it’s a survival mechanic.

  • Highly Customisable Matches: In public matchmaking, the rules are set, but in a private lobby, anything goes. Create unique experiences with game modifiers that affect objectives, environmental hazards, enemy behaviour, and gameplay rules, dramatically increasing replayability.

  • Interactive Streaming: Twitch viewers become active participants, influencing gameplay by directing the relentless Android’s hunt and creating unforgettable moments for both streamers and audiences.

  • Become an Omen: When you die, continue playing as an Omen — an invisible ghost-like character that can interact with and sabotage the environment for those who remain.

In a statement in the Early Access roadmap, Laley addressed players about the game and its future, and why he chose Early Access:

“Taking on a project like MIMIC has been an enormous undertaking, and getting it to this point has been one of the biggest challenges of my career. There’s still a lot of work ahead, and while I have some exciting ideas for where MIMIC could go, I also recognise that I can’t do this without your help. That’s exactly why Early Access is so important. I don’t want to spend the next year building features that nobody wants or making decisions in isolation. I want to hear from the people actually playing the game.“

Mimic dropping into Early Access is just one of many horror-themed reveals, with Cronos: The New Dawn getting a big update, which includes Photo Mode, something fans have been asking for since its release. While no release date is confirmed, Laley has also announced his next game, Mr. ChicKing, in what looks to be a colourful departure from the sci-fi horror that is Mimic.

Mimic is available right now in Early Access on Steam at £5.93/$9.99, with a temporary 40% launch discount, and will release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S.
