SOMA was originally released a decade ago on various gaming platforms, and it was an underrated horror experience from Frictional Games. The final product was the culmination of hard work and passion from every single developer, and it gave the gaming community yet another experience that is surely one for the books.
Amidst the 10th anniversary, the developers have considered the best way to celebrate it by re-releasing the game on a platform with new enhancements and extra freebies. The game was ported a year ago on base Nintendo Switch consoles, but this isn’t stopping Frictional Games from re-releasing a new physical edition for the anniversary.
SOMA Is Finally Coming to the Nintendo Switch Consoles and With Extra Goodies
While others may view re-releases as a desperate attempt for a cash grab, Abylight Studios and Frictional Games used this as an opportunity to highlight the game’s success, and gave it the edition it deserves. This edition will take advantage of the extra horsepower of the Nintendo Switch 2, offering improved performance, clearer visuals, and an overall better experience than playing it on the previous generation console.
These are all the inclusions in the 10th anniversary collector’s edition of SOMA:
- Collector’s Box: The package comes in a special box with a much more premium feel than the regular physical edition that was released a year ago.
- Original Art Book: This edition will have an 88-page art book containing original concept art for SOMA.
- Soundtrack CD: Listen to the original soundtrack composed by Mikko Tarmia.
- Reversible Cover: Feel free to use the alternate key art and add it to your collection.
- Full Game: The entire game is compressed into a 16 GB cart, and the next-gen version features improvements.
- Sticker Sheet: Decorate your items and other accessories with SOMA-related stickers.
- Omnitool Keychain: A replica of the in-game tool.
While these bonuses are all tempting for game collectors, it is worth noting that the 10th anniversary collector’s edition is only available through Kickstarter. This means that there will be limited quantities, and there is no guarantee of more prints beyond the initial release date.
Nintendo Switch 2 Owners Shouldn’t Miss Out on This Survival and Horror Experience
The original version was stable and playable on previous Nintendo Switch consoles; however, this doesn’t mean there is no room for improvement. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will improve in the following areas:
- Better Textures
- Improved Resolution
- Higher Detail Level
- Reduced Loading Times
- More Stable Refresh Rate
