Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a very successful outing for Larian Studios, enjoying a shelf life that other titles would like to achieve ever since its 2023 release. The excellent tactical RPG that brings the best of Dungeons and Dragons to the table is once again in the news although Larian may not be too happy with why that’s the case this time around.
A Perfect Send-off for Baldur’s Gate 3
Larian’s excellent post-release support for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a major factor in its success, with the developers even bringing support for mods on consoles in the penultimate patch for the game in October 2023.
With its final update for its flagship title bringing a lot of new features that have been on player wishlists for a while, such as the addition of brand new subclasses and a well-implemented photo mode, it’s evident that Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a labor of love for the Belgian studio.

However, it seems that Sony has jumped the gun on the release of the update (dubbed Patch 8) and accidentally made it live for the PS5 earlier than Larian Studios would have wanted.
Does Sony Have a Problem Keeping Secrets?
Baldur’s Gate 3 players on the PS5 are sure to have been surprised by an update that brought all of Patch 8’s features to their game despite Larian Studios currently running stress tests to ensure that the latest batch of additions to the game function as intended.
It’s a situation that Helldivers 2 players would be all too familiar with considering that Sony accidentally revealed unannounced content for the game in June 2024 much to the chagrin of Arrowhead Game Studios.
While the newly added photo mode and new subclasses are sure to be a treat for those playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on the PS5, they will have to wait a while before they get to share the joy with players on other platforms via crossplay, a feature that the game’s player base has been wanting for a long time.

Larian Studios has since confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 is currently available on the PS5 but warns that it could create problems for player saves in its current state. If you’re thinking about trying out some of the new subclasses or messing around with the new photo mode on the PS5, it might be a good idea to create a new save file before diving in!
