Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Hack Forces Activision Into Legal Fight

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Hack Forces Activision Into Legal Fight

Activision is trying to keep Call of Duty players aboard by trying to offer them some smooth in-game experience. However, it still is falling short in its efforts, thanks to Lergware and GameHook, a couple of hacks so toxic that players are quitting Black Ops 6 when used by the cheaters, reports IGN. The company named Ryan Rothholz, who goes by Lerggy on the internet, as the creator of the former hack who has been creating issues since 2021 or 2022. When a cease and desist letter was sent to him, he allegedly mocked Activision in a Discord community.

He then allegedly created GameHook later alongside Collin Gyetvai (Cid) and Jordan Newcombe Boothey (Bossnight55), also mentioned in the case. Activision says,

Defendants’ conduct harms Activision’s reputation and results in the loss of significant customer goodwill. In fact, GameHook has been so frustrating to COD players that it received significant attention on social media and, on information and belief, has caused players to stop playing or avoid the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

The game’s developer has brought in some anti-cheat measures before too but hackers have somehow found a way to spoil the gameplay anyway.

How’s Anti-Cheat Coming in in Black Ops 6?

To keep these cheating abominations at bay, Call of Duty came up with their own anti-cheat system called Ricochet. Since then, the developers have constantly updated it to make the digital battlefield better for players. In its March 2025 update, Team Ricochet claimed to have banned 228,000 accounts that were found cheating in the game. 23% of cheaters were removed even before they entered their first game, according to that update.

The latest update dropped on May 7, 2025, where it mentions that they have disrupted 150 cheat resellers. The death widget UI, which provides the players information on attacker count and damage dealt, received a new update too. The new key conditions for in-game death added to it are as follows:

  • Affected by Heartbeat Sensor
  • Body Shield on Teammate
  • Affected by Resurgence Mark
  • Affected by Prox Alarm
  • Affected by Most Wanted Target

While legit players will find them useful, we can’t really say when they will get rid of these Call of Duty hacks that have been plaguing the game for quite some time now.
