Rebel Wolves, a new developer made up primarily of experienced former CD Projekt Red staff, have finally unveiled more of its first game, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Very little was known before today, but now, we have a plethora of information including an electric, atmospheric cinematic trailer. Fans seemingly couldn’t get enough of it, but one disclosed feature has left them divided, and for good reason.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Revealed
The Blood of Dawnwalker players will take the role of Coen, extensively featured in the above trailer, who is a young man turned Dawnwalker, a being that can ‘tread’ between the two worlds of day (human) and night (vampire). Blessed with skills that make him a powerhouse to fight against, you’ll be fighting to save your family against foes both human and otherwise.
Gameplay details are pretty sparse right now, with a full reveal promised for Summer 2025 (presumably Summer Games Fest), but we do know some information, that has fans questioning the game already, primarily the inclusion of a mechanic designed to force urgency for players; a 30 days, 30-night cycle.
As revealed during The Blood of Dawnwalker event last night, the game will have a time limit, with players having 30 days and 30 nights to fulfill their quest. However, rather than it being real-time, it’ll only be upon finishing quests that the timer moves forward. Fans still weren’t sure how it could work though:
A popular comment seemed to focus on how the cycle could be the very mechanic that sets The Blood of Dawnwalker apart from other RPGs, be it for good or bad reasons:
Of course, RPGs with a time limit aren’t new with games as old as Dead Rising using the mechanic, or more recently Kingdom Come: Deliverance and some Persona franchise entries, but this is may be a new way of forcing urgency on the player to act, whilst allowing plenty of exploration in the open world if they choose.
Either way, time limit or not, the overall sentiment of The Blood of the Dawnwalker is impressive, with Reddit user Mina-chaan saying “The concept art is sick. It is enough to convince me we are getting yet another special RPG. We are RPG fans have been eating good for a while.”, and this thought is mirrored by many.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, although a release date is unknown currently.
