Marvel Rivals Fans Cry Conspiracy With One Mechanic

Marvel Rivals Fans Cry Conspiracy With One Mechanic

Marvel Rivals is here. It’s big, it’s beautiful, it’s varied and it’s fun. Featuring a huge roster of our favorite Marvel heroes in a 6v6 shooter, it’s hard to understand a world where this wouldn’t be a success. Taking on the likes of Overwatch, it seems to not only be a success, but a pop-culture and gameplay phenomenon, however, some fans aren’t happy with one specific mechanic.

Marvel Rivals Overtime Carries a Heavy Burden

Over on the Marvel Rivalssubreddit, one user posited the assertion that when a game enters overtime, it boosts the strength of the opposing team by 10x, an accusation that would fit in nicely with the variety of scripting theories across gaming. From the likes of EA Sports FC to Call of Duty, every game seems to have an out-of-your-hands moment, at least, according to the average player, and Marvel Rivals is no different.

Whilst the post may be in jest, some players certainly got on board with it. One user irule4567 said “This is a universal experience across games. In TF2 it’s even given a name: Pub Push.”, referring to the same event in Team Fortress 2, whilst Aelok2 said “As someone on the losing team, it does and I hate it. Sure, we steal the win at the final moment but it feels like a loss cause we got shut down the rest of the entire match until that final moment.”

Some other players chose a more levelheaded approach to the debacle though, instead looking into it with a little more scrutiny from a developer point of view, none better than user throwaway21212294:

More than a scripted mechanic though, the phenomenon could be as simple as players being forced to work together, panicking, giving up ‘advantageous positions’, or simply getting too excited about the possible win that they lose all ability to play.
