How to Beat Village Chief, the Spear-Bearing End in The Relic: First Guardian

We are finally here at the end of Act One within The Relic: First Guardian with the final boss if you have been following our guides or keeping up with the events that are spread throughout the first section of the game.

In order to fight the Village Chief, the Spear-Bearing End, there are quite a few steps involved to be able to actually fight said boss, but we also would recommend that you make sure that your weapons are ranked up, your armour is appropriate for your weapon, and your skills are ready for the fight.

SPOILER WARNING: Please be warned: if you have not found the Village Chief, the Spear-Bearing End naturally, and want to use our How to Find part of the guide, there will be spoilers for the event “To Survive” and the characters within, as well as the ending for Act One.

How to Find Village Chief, the Spear-Bearing End in The Relic: First Guardian

The hardest part about the Village Chief, the Spear-Bearing End, isn’t the fight, although that is quite hard, but actually finding him is probably the hardest part, as this boss is hidden behind a rather long event within the game that is even mixed in with the previous boss, Dix, the Fallen Heir.

Just like Dix, the player will have to follow the event “To Survive” in order to trigger this boss, as it is the conclusion to this event as well as the conclusion to Act One in terms of the bosses you can face.

In order to start “To Survive” if you haven’t already, you will be able to find an NPC in the Refugee Camp, as shown in the image below, who asks you to save some refugees from captivity at the hands of another boss, Cleaver. Once you arrive at Cleaver’s camp and defeat him, you will be able to save these NPCs and head back to the Refugee Camp to get the next step in the event.

After doing this, the NPC in camp will send you over to the village chief, who has a task for you, and that task is to head to the town of Edens in order to find his son and bring him back, but sadly this doesn’t end well as the quest leads you to Dix and the diary left behind by the chief’s son.

After defeating Dix, you will then have to return to the Refugee Camp for the final time, but sadly it hasn’t managed to stay as calm as it once was, as the camp has been attacked by looters and set ablaze, similar to the town of Edens, in which the player now has to clear out in order to save those left alive.

Now that you have cleared these enemies out, the NPC you have been working with this whole time will want to talk to you; do not run straight to him; instead, use a Tibelle’s Blessing in order to gather your resources, as this begins the boss fight proper.

How to Beat Village Chief, the Spear-Bearing End

The time has finally come to end Act One with one final boss fight, and to start this boss fight, you will have to talk to the NPC within the Refugee Camp. Once you talk to him, it will bring you into a small circular arena surrounded by purple fire. Please be warned: this fire isn’t just a wall; it does deal damage to you and even causes the curse build-up if you enter it.

Throughout the game, you have often been left on your own, especially during a boss fight, but this fight is unusual within the game’s first act as players actually have two forms of assistance that can help them win this difficult fight. The first form of help is in the form of the NPC you have been dealing with the entire time, as they join the fight with you.

What makes this NPC useful during this fight is that he can take aggro from the boss to give you a moment to breathe and seemingly has no health limit, and he can also attack the boss in various ways, whether it be just standard sword attacks, throwing fire bombs, or by adding poison to his blade.

Although this is very useful at the beginning, the fire bombs he throws can in fact harm you as well, especially the fire they leave on the floor, but after a certain amount of time he will stop fighting at least for a while, as he will return later on in the boss fight. On top of this, there is a second form of help you can receive in the game, and that is from archers in the surrounding area as they shoot fire arrows into the arena in an attempt to harm the boss further and create even more fire pools on the ground.

Again, as much as this can be very helpful, as it will deal small amounts of damage to the boss that could mean the difference between a loss or victory, these arrows can again harm you, and if they hit the ground, they will light the floor on fire again, putting you at risk of a fire status effect.

Now that we have got that out of the way, let’s talk about the boss himself. When it comes to the Village Chief, he is probably the most interesting boss within the game so far, as he has a lot of potentially dangerous attacks in his repertoire that can easily defeat the player while also having a challenging second half to his fight.

Unlike most of the bosses in this game, the Village Chief doesn’t fight fast or hard in the beginning but, in fact, moves around the arena like an old man (which he is just in monster form) and instead uses his very long spear and rather odd battle tactics to catch you off guard or by hitting you at a longer range than you will be used to.

This is possible since during this boss fight, the Village Chief doesn’t really stand still during his combos but instead jogs around the arena before running towards the player (or the NPC if he is still standing) before doing various attacks with his spear and then proceeding to jog away again and run back in on a constant rinse-and-repeat cycle.

In terms of the general attacks that the Village Chief uses, they often consist of him either stabbing the player around 2-3 times with his spear or slashing side to side in a wide arc, not just hitting those in front of him but also anything behind him as well.

One other attack that the boss can use during this section of the fight is quite similar to Dix, the Fallen Heir, which allows him to begin charging an unblockable attack that, once charged, creates a large blast around him, causing the curse effect on the player. Just like Dix, this attack is very noticeable and easy to avoid, but it can be quite harmful if you’re not fast enough to avoid it.

As you slowly whittle down the health bar of this boss, you will begin to notice that he becomes a lot more threatening as the fight goes on, and no, this isn’t just in your mind, as he does get faster with his attacks and even begins to do bigger attacks to match his speed.

The main attack you will begin to see him do is that he now launches himself high up into the air before attempting to impale you with his spear. Although this might seem threatening, it is actually quite easy to avoid or parry, as predicting when he will land is quite obvious due to his height and the amount of time it takes him to fall.

Once you get the Village Chief down to half health, this is where the fight gets a little more serious, as he will stop fighting momentarily as he kneels down like he is trying to catch his breath. This is the moment in which the Village Chief will begin absorbing a dark power before erupting into a large explosion, turning him into a monster more than a man.

Boss Fight Tip: During this moment, we recommend that you capitalise on the boss being still, as you are still able to do damage to him, meaning you can shorten the second half of the fight with ease.

After the Village Chief erupts with this dark power, the arena will change drastically, with the purple flame not just being a ring around the edge of the boss fight but instead essentially bringing the player into a large purple dome of energy filled with a dark purple fog on the floor.

Although this looks absolutely incredible, it does make this next section of the boss fight more challenging, as the Village Chief begins to fight similarly to Dix, as he is now rather similar to a werewolf, as he rushes around the arena at breakneck speed slashing his claws at the player, leaping into the air, running through the player, and so many other attacks that players will not be prepared for.

It isn’t all bad, though, as now our friendly NPC will join the fight once again as he stands back up for this chaotic fight, throwing his firebombs and inducing poison damage again, helping you defeat this insane enemy.

What makes this even more troubling is that the Village Chief’s combos will not get longer and will be a lot more aggressive too, as the combos can last up to 7 or more attacks, with him relentlessly slashing his hands at the player before running a slight circle and returning to the player to continue the combo all over again.

Besides the combos getting longer and the boss getting more frantic and aggressive, there isn’t a whole lot to worry about that wasn’t already in the fight, such as the curse status, the flames on the floor, and even the arena being rather small for what you are fighting, so this means the main thing you have to worry about here is keeping an eye on the boss and focusing on either avoiding or parrying his attacks to give yourself an opening.

Once you defeat the Village Chief, the Spear-Bearing End, you will finally be able to claim your rewards, and those rewards are well and truly worth it, with them being:

  • His weapon – The Spear He Never Let Go
  • His Lore
  • A Fragment of the Great Relic

Yes, you heard that right: after defeating the Village Chief, you will finally get your hands on your first piece of the great relic, bringing you one step closer to your goal and allowing you to progress to the next area with no worries.
