How to Beat The Unreturned in The Relic: First Guardian

At this point, we’re coming to the end of the first main area in The Relic: First Guardian, and the game ramps up the difficulty in the form of a walking tree enemy, that’ll put you in mind of the Ents from The Lord of the Rings, just far less nice.

If you’re here though, you’re obviously struggling, but don’t worry, we’ll explain location, rewards and exactly how to beat The Unreturned, the leafy git that he is.

How to Find The Unreturned in The Relic: First Guardian

As already mentioned, we’re getting close to leaving the first area of The Relic: First Guardian, so by this point you’ll be headed down and towards the right. However, right after you’ve beaten Gorvar, you’ll want to take a left turn off the main road out of the Faded Mist Forest, and this’ll take you towards three marked locations. On the left, the Village of Garde, a dark and mysterious village filled with corrupted enemies that’ll attack on sight. You’ll want to work your way through this, as you’ll need to grab the Sealing Stone at the end of it, if you want to access The Unreturned’s area.

After the village, backtrack a little and go passed the Tibelle’s Blessing, situated at the center of the fork in the road, using it if needed, and go right this time. This path takes you towards the Temple, and another Shard of Esser. Don’t forget to return to Elisa and get her to enhance your Shard of Esser, giving you another health potion in hand.

Now, you’ll want to backtrack a little once more, and head to the gate with the force field over it. Use your Sealing Stone you just picked up and open the door, and follow the path through it. Don’t miss the Ancient Relic Energy or the notes on the left as you climb the mountain. Once you reach the summit, you’ve found The Unreturned!

The Unreturned Location.

How to Beat The Unreturned in The Relic: First Guardian

The Unreturned, just like Arg before them, is a Brutal that is far bigger than our character, and therefore, it’ll cause you some issues. Similarly though, you can exploit the size difference for your own benefit.

As with so many other Brutals in The Relic: First Guardian, The Unreturned will immediately attack you once you enter his arena. However, he starts by picking up a huge rock, one of his main attacks, and throwing it at you. Thankfully, this is a slow attack, so you’ll want to immediately throw an elemental attack, a Shard of Emberflame (likely to instil Burn as he will be stuck midanimation), and unleash one of your skills.

UPCOMING BOSSES

  • Caldrok
  • Druger, Protector of Edens

If, like me, you’re maining a Sword and Shield with health buff Relics equipped, you’ll likely have a wealth of health and stamina, and some hard hitting skills. When the above happens, use Overwhelm at the end of the three attacks.

Using skills that keep you in touching distance is paramount to success. There’s two which will bridge the gap between yourself and The Unreturned, which you’ll be able to use to damage from afar.

The Unreturned’s attacks are devastating, when they land, so you’ll want to constantly be on the front foot. If you see him raise his foot, he’ll be slamming it to the floor and the resulting damage absolutely will kill you outright, so make sure you put some distance and block when you see it happening.

In a similar attack, he’ll also throw his arms into the air and bring them down in a clubbing fashion, into the ground. This is another damaging attack you’ll want and need to dodge, block or avoid completely.

Periodically throughout the fight you’ll want to use your ranged attacks, get in close in between The Unreturned’s combos and use your skills to damage quickly and efficiently. Menacing Strike and Overwhelm are the two that’ll really push you forward. The Unreturned’s not a fast-paced, or overly quick, meaning if you have your wits about you and avoid the highly damaging AOE attacks from The Unreturned, you’ll quickly figure out exactly how to beat The Unreturned.

After beating The Unreturned, you’ll have completed the Event ‘Remnants of Gratitude’ Don’t miss the opportunity to enter the cave Sanctuary of the Sleeping Dawn at the back of The Unreturned’s arena.
