How to Beat Gorvar, Blade of the Storm in The Relic: First Guardian

gorvar blade of the storm in the relic first guardian

When it comes to The Relic: First Guardian, there is a large variety of bosses from small to large both in terms of their physical stature and their involvement within the story of the game world, sadly Gorvar, Blade of the Storm is quite small in terms of his involvement in the story, but in terms of his stature and challenge within the game he is rather high on the list. Don’t worry though, we’ll walk you through his location, rewards, and most importantly, exactly how to beat Gorvar, Blade of the Storm, hopefully without much trouble!

WARNING: To fight Gorvar, Blade of the Storm and benefit the most out of his fight, make sure you speak to an NPC known as Ivan at the bottom of the hill before beating the boss as an event known as Last Hope, which during our playthrough became glitched after completing the boss fight first.

How to Find Gorvar, Blade of the Storm in The Relic: First Guardian

While you explore the world of The Relic: First Guardian, you will eventually make your way towards the village of Edens and the second act of the game, but before you make it there, you will stumble into an NPC known as Ivan on the main road who asks a favour of you.

As you talk to Ivan, he explains that he requires a certain herb to save his daughter from death, as no other medicine can do so. In order to find this herb, Ivan asks you to head up the hill in search of said herb, as he is unable to do so. By following this quest, you will be guided towards Gorvar, Blade of the Storm, and his arena, which is shown in the image above.

How to Beat Gorvar, Blade of the Storm

Now that you have found Gorvar, Blade of the Storm, and are prepared to take this Brutal on, there are a few situations that you should be prepared for before you jump straight in.

As you walk up to Gorvar’s arena, you can notice that he is not alone within his arena, and this is something to pay attention to, as the second you enter the arena, Gorvar and his two helpers will begin the fight together as they attempt to take you down quickly, and that is entirely possible if you let them.

The best way for you to start this fight would be to focus on these two additional units, as they are standard enemies with very low health, meaning that taking them out wouldn’t be hard. However, this isn’t the easiest of tasks, as fighting groups of enemies in The Relic: First Guardian is a challenge on its own with the massive stagger that can happen when you’re hurt, but it’s even worse when a boss is the one chasing you down. As an addition, if you die during this process, these extra enemies stay dead in your second run, so even if you kill one and then die, there is still one less enemy to fight.

After you defeat these enemies, you can focus your attention towards Gorvar himself. Just like many of the bosses within The Relic: First Guardian, he is very aggressive, as he relentlessly attacks the player with very minimal gaps between his combos, keeping the pressure on the player.

UPCOMING BOSSES

  • Selvarn, the Gilded Wretch
  • The Unreturned

Throughout the fight with Gorvar, he will constantly use his large greatsword to do numerous sweeping attacks that will ensure that the player has very few places to run to. Because of this, you will be very limited in your choices of avoidance from his attacks, leaving you with the option to dodge backwards or to parry his attacks.

During our playthrough, we often found that parrying was the wisest choice, as his attacks constantly move towards the player, meaning that you will be constantly on the run and on the back foot as you try to dodge away from his constant combos. Along with this, it is much easier to defeat him if you are able to parry his attacks and break his poise, as his armour is very low, meaning that most attacks, especially skills, can obliterate his health.

Because of the high number of his attacks and the speed of them breaking his poise, it will be very easy to do if you can time the parries right. In terms of his attacks, one is quite similar to another boss, with Gorvar doing a spinning attack similar to Garrot, The Execution of the Black Day, leading him to spin towards the player, which, if not properly managed, can deal a lot of damage to the player.

One of the more dangerous combos that Gorvar employs is when he begins by doing 3 crossing slashes with his sword, as his third slash carries him up into the air before doing an unblockable attack in which he spins twice in the air, slashing both times. This attack can be very painful if you are unprepared and takes a lot of practice to ensure you can time the parries and dodges at the right time.

Now that you are prepared for Gorvar, you will be able to defeat him with ease, leading you to claim his rewards, which are:

  • A Herb for Ivan’s quest
  • Gorvar’s Lore
  • Relic Energy

After you defeat Gorvar, we recommend that you rest at Tibelle’s Blessing just outside the arena and then head back to Ivan in order to turn in the Herb to finish the quest.
