Well, the upcoming God of War Laufey release date is now a little further out than it was 24 hours ago. In a shock announcement, with no prior rumblings or noise, Santa Monica Studio has announced the delay of its upcoming spinoff. We’ve seen the likes of Fable get pushed back from end of 2026 to early 2027, and now God of War Laufey is following suit.
In today’s announcement over socials, Santa Monica Studio said:
“Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we’ve been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye’s journey through the Everywhen. We don’t take for granted the trust placed in the studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans.
With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to delay God of War Laufey’s release to May 20th, 2027.
We will make the most of each moment until then by putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.
On behalf of everyone on the team, we appreciate your patience and we’ll be back to share more updates soon!”
That’s right, God of War Laufey’s release date is now another few months further away, with it set to release, assuming no other delays in the meantime, on May 20th, 2027.

With the game only revealed in June 2026, the original release date of February 16th, 2026 was clearly too early a target for the studio, and the extra three months may be needed for a plethora of reasons.
It could be said that the studio should have been a little more reserved and announced the final date only when ready, especially for a game that general audiences weren’t even aware of six months ago.
Whatever happens between now and then, Faye’s story will hopefully see the light of day and fill in some missing holes of the God of War timeline, and push the franchise further than it has been before, and in a new direction to boot!
