When playing the new version of DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, there are several things you need to know. It’s also very easy to make rookie mistakes if you are just starting with this mode. There is much more to DMZ than a simple extraction mode.
Here are a couple of things you need to avoid if you want to survive in Hajin and successfully extract from DMZ.
Avoid Going in Overly Equipped in Your Next Run

The most common mistake you can make is going into a DMZ match with tons of gear and weapons.
First, you’re tempting fate because if you die, you lose all of that. But most importantly, you can lose a good operator. The recommendation is to go in with only one gun, two-plate armor, a medium backpack, a throwing knife for stealth, and bandages. Nothing else. Then, you can loot everything you can carry and head to the extraction point.
Havoc Is Your Worst Enemy
Another rookie mistake you must avoid is killing enemies everywhere without any filter.
With every enemy you kill, you’ll attract more attention, and eventually, you’ll become a wanted target on the island. That’s why you need to equip a suppressor on your gun and try to get as many stealth kills as possible while infiltrating a base or any compound. With this method, you can at least buy yourself some time to loot without any rush.
This is strongly recommended if you like to play alone.
Facing Other Operators
While this depends a little on your skill and, to some extent, your survival skills, facing other operators is another classic rookie mistake. It’s understandable to want to go after other players, but it’s not that advisable because you don’t always know where the other team members are.
So, if you encounter enemies heading in another direction and shooting, go the opposite way. This is especially important if you are alone. If you have your team with you and don’t have that much loot, you can always try to kill the other operators. It depends on how clearly you can spot your enemies and whether you can take the first shot.
Greed Is Not a Good Friend
As in all extraction shooters, the most valuable thing besides winning is getting the best possible loot. However, this could lead to losing everything because of your own greed.
That’s why the best advice to avoid making another basic mistake is to head to the closest possible exfil point on the map once your backpack is full. Leave the city, especially if you are playing Free Roam.
Do Not Run in the Wild

While the map is not that big compared to previous iterations of the mode, there is no reason to run around and become an easy target for other operators. Always try to have a vehicle ready to escape or even to drive toward the nearest exfil point. A vehicle can make a real difference. You can get to a mission location or even a target you want to loot much faster.
Only Save What Is Necessary
Between your stash and your medium backpack, you have at least 60 spaces to gather materials, gear, keys, and more. It is recommended that you avoid saving anything that isn’t essential. For example, there is no need to save different kinds of explosives. They will barely last through most deployments. You only need to save a few for bosses or complicated missions.
Even if you don’t have a lot saved up, you can get plenty of explosives in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ without much trouble. Looting almost any compound will guarantee you some explosives. This also applies to unnecessary tactical equipment, such as flash or concussion grenades. Try to keep track of the materials you need to craft something useful, and toss the rest. Only save important items, such as medkits, self-revives, killstreaks, and armor vests with two or more plates. Keep only the essentials.
It is a common mistake to save almost everything, especially if you die while carrying valuable loot. But if you only save a few important items, you’ll be fine. Playing regularly will naturally guarantee that you get great loot.
Powerful and Silent Weapons Are the Best in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ

As you may have noticed, there are different threat levels. With low and medium threat levels, you’ll have almost no problem killing enemies without being detected. This changes as the threat level rises. At high threat levels and above, enemies will use better equipment and armor. So, it won’t be easy to kill them with a simple shot from basic weapons equipped with suppressors.
To avoid this common mistake, get yourself a good marksman rifle or powerful assault rifle to get a clean kill without raising any suspicion. Two good examples are the Oris 8.6 and the Mar-9. So, if you go to a high-threat base or compound for a mission or just to get loot, buy a suppressor and try to stay undetected for as long as possible. Keep in mind that the throwing knife will not kill an armored enemy with just one hit, so you need at least two and must be accurate.
Spend Too Much Money on Gear or Weapons
It is tempting to spend your first big cash rewards on building a good weapon or simply buying great equipment. However, this is another beginner’s mistake. If you don’t have enough money, you won’t be able to bring back your favorite operator. The more levels you gain with one operator, the more traits you can unlock, but this also means that rescuing that operator will become more and more expensive.
For example, if your Gold Rank operator gets killed in a mission, rescuing them will cost you at least 30K. So, always try to save some money for emergencies, whether it’s to rescue your operator or buy intel to find one of the bosses on the map.
