While this particular mission in DMZ mode is not that difficult, it has a couple of steps to follow. It is recommended to complete it as a team, but you can also do it on your own. This Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ story mission is about hacking several terminals at the same time to get intel about a special weapons program nearby.
It is advisable to bring some bandages or medkits, a 2-plate vest, and night vision goggles at the very least, but don’t worry, by the end of this guide you’ll know everything you need to know to complete Operation Shopping Hacks in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4‘s DMZ mode.
How to Complete the Operation Shopping Hacks Story Mission in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ
We assume this isn’t your first trip into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4‘s DMZ mode, but if it is, have a read of our tips and tricks. The mission will start near the shopping mall, just like the previous one. You’ll need to enter the mall and get to a computer. The shopping area will be guarded, but not as heavily as in other missions. However, for this first hack, you need to kill some enemies. Try to do it quietly and then proceed to the next part.
After hacking the computer, you’ll receive a code to access the security room, which is on the lower floors. The area will be dark, so you’ll need the goggles. If you don’t have night vision goggles, one of your objectives is to get a pair just outside the parking entrance. Then, you’ll have to go back and head down to the parking area to access the mall.
Once inside the lower area of the mall, it will be completely dark, except for some parts where the game will let you know when to take your goggles off. The main issue with this area is that it will be full of drones that look like dogs.
These drones will alert enemies to your presence and will also come after you and literally explode beside you, damaging your armor or even killing you. So, try to avoid them or kill them from a safe distance. It is almost impossible to avoid detection in this part.
Going for the Security Room
In this part, you need to use the goggles at all times and be aware of motion traps that will trigger the alarm. Going straight ahead, you’ll reach the security room, where you need to activate another generator to restore power. After turning on the power, enemies will automatically come to your position, so be careful.
From there, you need to go to a nearby room and access a computer that will tell you how to enter the secret lab where the special weapons are stored. However, to enter that area, you need to find four functioning drone cores. This will not be easy, or at least not quick, as not all the bots drop functional cores.
The ones you’re looking for don’t explode but can electrocute you. They are blue, so you’ll spot them easily. The problem is that they don’t appear very often. There is no other way than to start destroying all the drones you see until the cores you need start to drop. You need four in total.
Let the Hacking Begin
Obviously, destroying all these drones will attract a lot of enemies, so a ton of them will appear. When you finally get the four cores and enter the lab, it is time to hack. There will be five computers to hack and a ton of enemies to kill. This part will not be easy, but it is less complicated than finding all the cores.
Once you activate all five computers by hacking them, a timer will appear to let you know when the process is complete. The issue is that some soldiers will deactivate the computers from time to time, so you’ll need to reactivate them until the timer stops.
Drones and Soldiers Everywhere
While you’re waiting, you’ll face consistent attacks from both drones and soldiers, who will never stop coming. You won’t get a break at any point while waiting for the timer to finish. Once the timer is up, a door in the secret lab will open, and you need to grab a toxic sample of the bioweapon they were experimenting with.

It is recommended to search the entire lab because there are many valuable items to collect, including a decrypted message that could be very valuable. After this, you’ll need to reach the rooftop and exfil. There is a quicker way to get out of here using a zipline straight to the rooftop. Outside, in the back-left part of the mall, you’ll find the zipline to escape easily.
The rewards for completing this mission are $25K in cash, a blueprint for improved night vision goggles, and a key to the Mining Den Secret Stash.
