After exploring the Ashmann Villa for a short while in Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy, you will have eventually stumbled across quite a few things that this guide will go over as you look to push through the early sections of the game, solving your first major puzzles in the Ashmann Villa and getting your first look at the Novices.
How to Repair the Music Box in Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy And Open the Birdcage
The first few things you will have come across are two rooms that will be locked with keys, the first being the Compass room and the other being the Library, which will both be opened during this guide.
The other thing you will have noticed is that there is a locked birdcage in the foyer room of the villa with a metronome inside, and in a side room filled with paintings and busts, there is a music box with a bride figure inside, with the groom missing.
In this guide, we will go over how to easily unlock these different rooms, open the birdcage, and finally, how to repair the music box so that you can push forward in the game.
How to Find the Music Box and the Compass Key
Once you have managed to get into the Ashmann Villa in Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy, you will need to begin searching around the villa for puzzles to solve. The first puzzle you will eventually come across that you can solve at this point in time is the Music Box puzzle, which requires you to head to the far right side of the Villa into a room that is filled with paintings and busts of people.
While you are heading to this location, you will also come across the main foyer of the villa, which holds a small birdcage and a metronome locked inside. This birdcage will be the final objective of this guide, so make sure you pay attention till the end.
After you make your way into the painting room, you will find at the back of the room a small music box with a statue of a bridge with no head inside, which, when you interact with it, will explain that you need to find the groom statue to bring them together.
Inside this same room, directly behind you is a small cupboard, and this key is the Compass Key, and it can be used to unlock the Room of Wonders back towards the left-hand side of the villa.

So now you have the key; you need to head back over to the locked door on the left-hand side of the villa. However, as you make your way through the foyer, you will be introduced to the Novices, and sadly, this is where your smooth adventure ends.
From this point forward, there will always be at least one Novice roaming the halls of the Villa in search of you, and you will need to stealth your way around as best as you can.
Due to the paths of the Novices being random, we suggest doing whatever feels natural to make your way across to the other side of the house, whether it be throwing a distraction, hiding until they roam away, or just running like hell (maybe not the last one).
After you finish avoiding the Novice and gain access to the Room of Wonders, there will be a few things to investigate nearby, but what you are looking for is a second key.
How to Find the Library Key and the Groom Statue

The second key can be found in a closed book in the far corner of the room when you first enter it. If you look diagonally left from the door and inside this book, you will find the library key.
Now, if you haven’t guessed it, this key will open up the library, and yes, the library is back on the right-hand side of the villa.
So once you obtain this key, you again will now have to head back to the right-hand side of the villa and open the library door.

Please be warned: once you approach this door, you will be met with a cutscene that does involve a Novice and a jump scare while also showing you firsthand some of the grossness of the game.
After the cutscene finishes, you will now be able to open the door to the library and head inside in search of the groom statue.
For the time being, there isn’t a lot you can do in this room except look at a few interactables on the lower floor, but once you head upstairs and onto the balcony a few seconds later, on a table, you will be able to find the groom statue.
How to Fix the Music Box and Open the Birdcage
Now you may be thinking, ‘That’s great; now I can head back downstairs and through the door I came in to head back to the music box.’ Sadly, you would be wrong.
If you try to do this, you will find the door is locked, and you will need to roam around the balcony until you reach a new door that leads you to the foyer’s upper level.
To get down from here, there are two doors you can use, with one being on either side of the foyer, down some stairs, and we would suggest opening them both up to provide shortcuts to help loop the Novices if needed.
Once you attempt to head back to the music box, a Novice will make itself known in the foyer and will begin stalking around this area to slow you down.

If you can avoid it and head back to the music room, again ensuring you unlock the library for more escape routes, you can now place the groom statue inside the music box, completing the music box puzzle and claiming your reward.
The reward in question is a small item with doves on it that doesn’t look like it could go anywhere, but it does in fact go in the birdcage that is hiding the metronome away from you.
Finally, once you have the dove pendant, head back to the foyer and try to unlock the birdcage, and we say ‘try’ because the Novice has now locked this door, stopping you from using the direct route.
Instead, you need to head through the library and sneak your way through this path, but be warned: during your playthrough, the Novice was actually hiding inside a hiding spot, waiting to harm us, so make sure you play carefully.
After sneaking through the library and making your way into the foyer, you simply need to place the pendant inside the birdcage to open it and unlock the next section of the game, and even a special power to boot.
